That preposterous strutting by police and campus administrators of “a “hard closure” was being enforced” is the usual attempt to puff themselves up. Similar to animals and birds.

If they were actually tough they would have opposed the Communists, shut them down and put them in jail. Not negotiated and tried to look like Gandhi.

I agree with the first part of the post. But don't understand this sentence:

Not negotiated and tried to look like Gandhi.

Do you think the police were trying to make the protestors look like Gandhi? Or are you saying the British should not have negotiated with Gandhi? I know about the movie, and about Gandhi.

If they actually live in campus residences it poses a problem to evict them. Other renter rights laws may apply. So they are allowed to their residence. The rest of the campus is presumably “hard closed” which I gather is a first step. Anyone who breaks that may indeed get arrested. Yes I do see where these appears to be puffing up but it may be one step - if it works great if not then arrests for trespass and disorderly conduct. It’s just too bad all the students are now suffering at the hands of a few. Like all the Palestinians are now suffering at the hands of Hamas.

I still think the main problem is the lack of moral courage. Either there is nobody who knows what to say or nobody who has the courage to say it - or they simply don’t care lor like to see suffering and human sacrifice for ideology. The Palestinians have been failed by their own leaders for generations, since 1948 at least Arafat turned down the two state deal in 1999. Since 2005 Israel did not have any presence in Gaza. The Gazans are oppressed by their repressive government. They spent the last 20 years diverting humanitarian aid given them by worldwide donors to harden their positions for this war instead of creating a future for their people. The brutality of their Oct 7 attack exposes them for who they are and what they believe in, but worse than that it was just stupid and they had to know it would provoke a massive reaction that would harm their own civilian populations. They did it anyway. Anyone who is pro Hamas is pro-repression, pro-genocide, pro-war crimes, anti-progress and anti-peace. There is no choice left but to remove Hamas from the equation. But very few people are willing to come out and say it clearly and directly. A few have, ironically, Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi have come close.

Republicans are right too but they should not even bother talking about Oct 7th at this point because all it does is make people talk about “proportionality” etc. This is simpler than that. Hamas has to go. They are evil. They can go willingly or be escorted out. Their choice.
