Conservative rebels plan 100-day ‘policy blitz’ if local elections are disaster

Rishi Sunak is braced for a bruising week as Tory rebels flaunted plans for a 100-day “policy blitz” to secure quick wins if the local election results prove disastrous for the party.

The prime minister said on Sunday that he was not “distracted” by his personal ratings lingering at record lows. He refused to rule out calling a July general election amid mounting rumours that unruly MPs will attempt to oust him if the West Midlands mayor, Andy Street, and the Tees Valley mayor, Ben Houchen, are defeated on Thursday.

Conservative rebels say it’s time to put an end to “broken pledges, distant plans for change and bans they never asked for” and instead use 100 days to prove the government is “taking action and cares about what matters to the British people”.

Their five-point plan to end the reign of “tinkering, dithering and managerialism” includes:

- An attempt to end the junior doctors pay dispute with a 10-12% offer.

- Further cuts to legal migration numbers, with a curb on the number of foreign students staying in the UK.

- Vow to increase defence spending to 3% of GDP by 2027.

- Introduce measures to jail prolific offenders and build rapid detention cells to increase prison capacity.

- Cut the welfare/benefits bill, with a target to reduce payments for depression and anxiety.

A Tory source said: “These are policies that can be introduced in a few months and then go to the country for people to make a decision. We’ve got to be clear and bold in our plan, and with the right messenger, to have any chance of winning otherwise it could be two or three terms of Labour.”

Convince Boris Johnson to set himself on fire in the middle of London Bridge.

If Rishi Sunak is anyone’s example of a conservative leader, it’s time to find a new hobby.

Nothing. They blew it with the lockdowns and not sinking the boats. Johnson should be hanging from a lamppost by his broken neck.

The Conservatives have been in power for almost 15 years. Britain’s elections swing like a pendulum...Labour in power for 10-15 years...then Conservatives for 10-15 years. Back and forth.

Politicians do not do things to help their country.
Politicians do not do things to help the people.

Politicians just do things to get themselves elected.
And most of the time, they can get themselves elected without doing much of anything at all.

It is only occasionally that they need to come up with some sort of “program”.

They can go over his head and do stuff in Parliament like these policy ideas quickly. Although, I dont think it will make much difference

The leader is lacking....

Yes but crucially they have squandered a large majority which Boris secured. They have +80 seat majority !! Imagine the GOP having that in Congress !!

Yet I can’t think of anything they’ve done!?! Really strange. They’ve done nothing of note apart from deporting SOME immigrants to Rwanda and that took them 2 years.

Cost of living is too high, London is a shithole, the refusal to sink the boats has repopulated Britain with third world savages who run around stabbing people. Life in England is hell under the “conservatives.” They caused these problems instead of making them better.

It’s not just the boats. For many years Britain had an immigration policy that basically allowed citizens of any former colony to settle there. Jamaica is a former colony. India is a former colony.Pakistan is a former colony.Kenya is a former colony.

That has not been the case, unqualified, since the first Immigration Act of 1971.
