People wonder why we call the F-35 a flying tin can. Matt Gaetz proves precisely why that is indeed the case:

You will not believe what an insane waste of taxpayer dollars is going on here. Perhaps the biggest MIC boondoggle to date.

THIS is supposed to be our last ace in the hole against the Russians and Chinese.

We have seen this before. The Jap Zero was a superior maneucering aircraft even at the end of the war. But the Hellcat cleaned them out not because they were better at dog-fighting [they weren’t] but because of superior fire power and much better sruvivabiity. Hellcats came back from battle all shot up, but survived. Zeros didn’t come back.

And the Ukrainians have pulled all M1A1 Abrams tanks off the front lines because they’re “weak and vulnerable.” There’s footage of the Russians towing the blasted carcasses back to Russia to put on display.

You/rest can’t be this naive, as long as {X} gets {Y} in their district, it’s all good. I mean, it’s ONLY taxpayer $, they can tax more (a/o just add to the debt/deficit)

You will not believe what an insane waste of taxpayer dollars is going on here

Times have changed, it's a brave new world now, you can't continue to hold on to those rigid principles. Not everybody can live up to your high demands and expectations... All the people that used to know how to build things and get things done are long gone now, so sit back and enjoy as the Participation Trophy generations take over at the helm... Who is John Galt?

Not a plane in the sky can shoot it down.

They don't have to shoot it down when it is already on the ground because it can't fly.

The Navy’s LCS program is a runner up.

“Mission capable” is a tricky term. Aircraft can be made less than mission capable by loosening a bolt. The processes involved in maintaining a fleet of aircraft do not reduce themselves to simple terms.

Matt Gaetz can’t be so naive. The F-35 was never designed to be a capable. Reliable combat aircraft.

It was designed to be a welfare program for white people.

The Pappy Boyington squadron of F-35s visited the Coeur d’Alene, ID airport summer of ‘22. Six arrived. Three hours later, five departed. Some exhibition.

But those that were flying were spectacular.

Same goes with the German Tiger tank vs. the Soviet T-34 tank. The Tiger was more powerful. It was also more expensive and less reliable.

In some actions only 1/3 of the Tigers present were combat-ready. Tough to win a war when most of your tanks are in the shop.

Right, or nowadays it could mean the latest software update hasn’t been installed yet.

One silver lining is this shows that our military is capable of carrying out a fairly honest accounting even when it’s bad news. I’m sure in many militaries it would be the norm to bury a bad seeming number this or make sure it didn’t get generated in the first place.

“They don’t have to shoot it down when it is already on the ground because it can’t fly”.

Bingo!

And not enough ground crews to work on them.

The war in Russia was an example of how it’s the losers who write the history. The Tigers reputation is largely BS.

Where did you get THAT idea? It’s ok and pretty good in a sense. It has limited stealth from the front third aspect. It has all aspect missiles so it doesn’t have to do a tail chase. And if it survives the EW environment it’s ability to network with other fighters could work well.
But it cannot out run, out accelerate, and out turn anything.
Not so much for fighting, but for the ability to break contact at will. It’s short legged, lightly and lightly armed.
If you hang more missiles or external tanks, your stealth vanishes.

It’s -way- far from “not a plane in the sky can shoot it down”.
You won’t be far off if you think of it as a light bomber that can sneak in places and fight it’s way out. But if conventional 4.5 fighters find it in daylight, there had better be some F-15s 16s or 22s around to save it.
