"Clindit." The combo name has a vague but appropriate indecency to it. Even those who repudiate the parallelism are compelled to run a sort of check-off list to reassure themselves that there isn't any real comparison between Gary Condit and Bill Clinton. (And it must say something about the "legacy" of our most recent ex-president that this uncouth auction of comparable features is most forcibly suggested by mentions of the suborning of perjury and the obstruction of justice.) How far may the analogy be extended?

I was reminded of Clinton's three rapes-something that haunts me to this day.

Ah, I beg to differ, although I hate to, the article is wonderful. However, two young girls did accuse Condit of raping them several years ago. They fled Sacramento area and ended up in the Pacific Northwest because they feared for their lives. But I guess Christopher hasn't heard this one.
It is true that Gary just doesn't have the "charm" of Bill Clinton, or the media adoration. I kept thinking as I was watching the interview with Connie that he just wasn't able to pull it off like Elvis, I mean Clinton did.

There's two kinds of Southern males. The Clinton kind learn to act like the good kind - fake bonhomie and caring about other people. Condit somehow didn't learn to fake it as well as Clinton. I also believe Condit's wife lacks the vile Borgia-like ability to scheme and plot, and delight in infamy - enjoying trampling on the concepts of decency - if you like doing something, you're going to be better at it. Condit's guile didn't get recharged at home like Clinton's did - "cherchez la femme", and Condit's didn't produce for him.

I got some interesting info on FOXNews this a.m. Apparently Dickie Gephardt has been meeting with some Reps.(whose names were kept secret) about Condit. Wonder why the secrecy? Are these some of the Reps. in the alleged sex party circle? Is Gephardt really dumb enough to think those names will stay secret?

And Fox's camera crew caught two of Billy Martin's investigators leaving the Hill yesterday after visiting offices there? Who were they there to see? Were they asking about Condit or about the people Gephardt was meeting with?

I have a sneaking suspicion Condit is going to take a lot of Congress critters down with him whether he intends to or not. Goody.

Ahem, using his chief of staff qualifies as using a public official to protect himself. He tried to use campaign contributions for his legal fees. If he could have found a way to launch cruise missiles, he would have.

Clinton is unequivically self-centered. This is why he succeeds where others fail. There are many reasons for this, but he has developed a singlular lack of guilt for his actions. Everything he does is right because he does it. Condit still has pangs and twinges of guilt.

As 1/535th of a political body, he had nowhere near the influence exerted by or of the influence wielded by a sitting president..

I think rape fits into the Clinton persona as a feature of total victory over others. Armies often rape, loot, and murder as side-benefits of their military conquests. Boy Clinton was not a pacifist, just a coward. He was not against war. He was just against a particular war where he might get hurt.
