In our archdiocese, Priests are "transferred" as a general rule every seven years (pastors at least).

The mandate of transfer is generally honored by the priest and the "assignment" elsewhere may be heartbreaking on both the side of the priest and his flock.

"Assignments" are often identical among Sisters and are "handed out" every summer.

I am in no defensive or offensive mode concerning Father Frank Pavone or for or against Cardinal Egan ... this could be a simple change in Mission for him.

By praying for a concrete reason which we cannot yet see, for such an important change in MISSION, perhaps we are making too much of the issue ... perhaps we are being subverted into innecessary dissonance in acceptance of this change and in fact, ... neither Cardinal Egan nor Fr. Pavone have a "hand" in this change.

Perhaps in this new mission ... a larger and more influential soldier for life is awaiting a call and Fr. Pavone is the vehicle for that person's calling!

Call me an eternal optimist! ;~)
