It is usually possible, given the effort, to put yourself in
someone else's shoes, and find some justification for
their behavior. But I cannot for the life of me understand
the mindset that would murder without warning thousands
of innocents. Our own humanity makes retaliation
in kind seem unlikely.
The frustration I feel is similar to what I felt when the
Soviets downed the Korean airliner. How could we
hope to defeat a system so merciless, powerful,
and dedicated to our destruction? I thank god today
for Ronald Reagan. I wish he were still in office.
