A State Department website warned of possible terrorist attack late last week. Dated 7 September, the warning says US citizens are under increased threat from attack by groups allied to Osama bin Laden.

It continues: "In the past, such individuals have not distinguished between official and civilian targets."

It highlights fears that military personnel in Japan or Korea could be targeted. The warning calls on US citizens to remain vigilant and increase their security awareness.

Would this have stopped those people from going to work at the WTC or people from getting on those planes....We'll never know but I doubt it. In the "Left Behind" series everyone goes on with their daily lives despite the fact that nuclear bombs are going off. I found this completely ridiculous.....Now it seems perfectly believable.

The period of about 10am through midnight tonight (eatern time) corresponds to overnight time in the area from Afghanistan to Lybia. I wouln't be surprised if we hear some news sometime in that period.

I'd be disappointed if we didn't.

Yes it is. During the bombing of Berlin by the allies, Germans got up every morning and went to work, even after bus and streetcar lines were knocked out. It's a human thing to carry on and stay involved in life even when the world is crashing around them. Takes your mind off your troubles and probably keeps you sane.

I find your headline misleading ... 'warned of attack' seems to imply that we had warning of this specific attack ... warning that increased activity in the Pacific Rim is possible is hardly indicative of a large scale domestic attack on NYC. In the Pacific and IO op areas we get DAILY warnings of some sort or another.

If someone wants to go public and try to claim that the intel community had forewarning I think they need to be prepared to come to the table with a truckload of information. I want details about who knew and when. I want definitions of operators, plans, points of origin, and potential targets. If you come to play with anything less you are doing nothing more than slandering the people who are on the front lines doing their best to protect us with the limited resources allowed them by 8 years of neglect.

If you intend to paint the blood on someone's hands for this I hope to God you have the integrity to go about it with enough info to slap the cuffs on them while you're there ... anything less is just conspiracy mongering and anti-gov rhetoric. In short: put up or shut up, this is no time for BS.

Poster of this thread is IMHO trying to "bend" information normally supplied from source in post # 9. I recieve these threat briefings every day via e-mail (anyone can sign up for such at the web site).

To "bend" (polite word here at FR) such data is ,as you state, irresponsible IMHO.

I agree to an extent, but a moment of reflection wouldn't have hurt either. I feel like kids should have been let out of schools to be with their families, but the schools in my area apparently felt like they could handle explanations better than the parents could. That angers me. I don't expect life to stop but we were basically "under attack". It was shocking and hasn't happened to that extent before. I feel we should have all been with our families, as was possible.

I think we should also consider also the possibility that fellow Americans could have done such an attack. It is likely and possible. Unfortunately some fellow Americans would probablly do such a thing to their own countrymen. I am curious to know if any of the people who called from the Airplane give any description of who the highjackers were. I find it out that there is no mention of that period. One would think if they were middle eastern that some mention would have been made to their loved ones.

If the mossad knew, our guys should have known. We are constantly threatened by terrorist attacks. Many, I'm sure, that Americans never hear about. We probably were warned about this one, but I don't believe anybody knew the extent to which it would go down, or the targets, or the "weapons" that would be used. I still have enough faith in this country to believe that had that been the case, the terrorists would never have succeeded. I can only hope I'm never proved wrong.....
