I know we're all rallying 'round the president now, and here I've been, rallying like everybody else. But the hours are passing. The body count is rising. The news is staying grim. The nation's premier city has suffered this unspeakable loss.
The question can't wait much longer. New York has a right to know.
"Where are you, Mr. President?"
Mostly, George W. Bush has been keeping his head down, staying out of harm's way. He certainly hasn't shown his face around here.

I congratulate you on your stunning observation that the duties of President and Mayor are different. You are obviously a man of great intellect. However I am surprised that a man of your gifts did not come to the conclusion that perhaps there were valid reasons that Air Force One did not make a beeline for Washington. I am sure you are aware by now that word has come out that a credible threat was made against Bush, and that it was in the Nations best interest to keep the President safe. I think an acknowledgement of your error is in order. Secondly, as a New Yorker I understand that you do not realize that the rest of the country doesnt share your view that the area between the East and Hudson rivers constitutes America. I do not, however, understand how you think that Bush would better serve the nation as a whole by posing for a New York photo op. I understand you pine for the Clintons, who would have responded by running to the nearest camera. You should understand that we have a President that is more concerned with getting the job done than getting on tv to tell us about it. I did find your use of words like nervously and frightened amusing. From your picture you look to me like one of the kids I remember from elementary school who would either play with the girls or who would cry to the teacher that the boys were playing dodgeball too rough. They are the type who grow up and throw tough words around on paper to try and convince themselves they werent really sissies. It never works.
So why aren't these media jerks talking about Klinton's love for terrorists.
Remember our former Commander and thief released the Puerto-Rican terrorists out of prison
to gain votes for Hillary? It truly makes me sick.
Do we want Bush to be Comforter in Chief or Commander in Chief?
It takes all kinds...
The President has been huddling with his national security advisers determining who and what, when and where and how much of what to throw at somebody. This article is so shallow that I am amazed it found it's way into print.
These idiots do nothing more than aid the enemy with their vacant slams at our figurative head. Pull the car over Mr. Author, if anybody deserved a Rodney King(ing) you're the one!
President Bush was a target of assassins yesterday. Rudy Giuliani was not. I am sorry he was not there to hug you and feel your pain, but he actually had important work to do like manage an international and domestic crisis, something that Clinton never could do without an intern sucking his cigar.
This might be one of the most ignorant and bias articles I have ever seen in print:
1) Bush is the Commander in Chief - it is his duty to take control of the military, especially when this nation was in such peril.
2) Bush is coming to NYC tomorrow. Did it even occur to you that NYC may have had enough on its hands and were much too busy to deal with a Presidential visit? Did it even occur to you that Guiliani and Pataki may have asked him NOT to come? I doubt it, because this piece of crap shows your true colors!
3) Only a terrorist sympathizer would think that Bush should be put in harm's way. What a coup that would have been for the terrorist to have assassinated the US President!
4) We don't need a phony photo-op of a President shedding fake tears. 8 years of a self-centered fake is enough for one nation.
5) Your criticism and timing rings of prejudice and bias. It is truly sickening that Newsday even allowed you to write and publish this. I am totally appalled at your lack of patriotism at this time of national mourning.
This is a time for men. The petty criticisms from cowards like this reporter are of no significances, other than to remind us of how we got to this sad state of affairs. Mr. Henican, go to the rear with the women and children. You'll be safe there. We will let you know when it is safe to come out.
And I have to say that I understand why he has stayed away from NYC. I think when he goes tomorrow, an appropriate time will have passed.
But, I would agree with the author that Rudy Giuliani has been nothing short of tremendous during this crisis. It's no insult to Bush to suggest that the Mayor of New York has been a rock, and a great leader, and a beacon for the whole country.
I will criticize Bush for one thing. Sometime during all of this, he should have held a public press conference. I agree that he has other important things to do besides reassuring the nation, but as the leader, reassurance is one of his duties.
I hope he holds such a press conference today, or tomorrow as part of his visit to New York.
"Hey dumbass, shut your mouth you damn idiot!!!"
Since the beginning of this horrific event, President Bush has been doing his job and carrying out his Constitutional duties. Bush has made numerous public appearences in the last 2 1/2 days, along with many public news conferences by Secretaries Rumsfeld, Powell, Thompson and Mineta, and of course AG Ashcroft.
Its amazing to see all these liberals, like Henican, Peter Jennings and even Chris Matthews, stepping forward to be so overly critical and to even condemn the words and actions of President Bush. Its obvious they still miss the bastard Bill Clinton and can't seem to get over the fact that he's no longer in charge of anything.
GOD BLESS AMERICA AND GOD BLESS PRESIDENT BUSH
