Roman 12:17-21 is the passage which says "Vengeance is mine". This is perhaps one of the last scriptures we want to hear at this time.

But it is followed by Roman 13:4 which teaches that it is government's role to deal with evildoers. In this passage we can take comfort and also can see the need to pray for our leaders.

For those who were at church today, we came together to pray for our shared pain and anguish.  We know that we do not wish to strike out and punish the people who were NOT responsible for the mass killings in NYC and DC.  We want minimum collateral damage, so to speak.

Now we cannot do this without accurate information.  With info, we can get things done - the right way.

What I bring you now is info..............................

There WILL be more terrorist killings in this country!

And there is NOTHING we can do about it!

For it is LEGAL................

We cry, for there may be around 5000 dead in NYC, but.................................

in New York City, in 1998 alone,   97,478 died at the hands of terrorists.

Yes - you read that right!!

And THESE victims never saw the plane coming: never heard the explosion; never felt the building shaking.
They never got an e-mail warning them to flee or a phone call saying, "GET OUT!"

Their loved ones never had a chance to hear them say, "I love you - goodbye", for the last time.  Or for the first time.

You see, these were the unborn who never had a chance to even live in the clear blue light of day, let alone die in it.

WTC is a drop in the bucket compared to the little ones who also have been dropped into a bucket.

Is it any wonder that our enemies prevail?

America: repent, change the way you are going.

Write your Senators and Congressmen and let's put our country right again!

2nd Chronicles
Chapter 7
Verse 14

If MY people, who are called by MY name, will humble themselves and pray and seek MY face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Mary is indeed the patron of many countries. By the way, I believe the official designation for the United States' patronage is "The Immaculate Conception of Mary."

For a list of all of Mary's patronages (there are a LOT of them), please go to: www.catholic-forum.com/saints

There you will find a list of all the saints by name, by topic (patronage), and by name and topic. Browse away! (Most of the stories are very interesting.)

Regards,

First of all, men, if you are hearing the same old surrender-pacifism of the Left, you are in the wrong congregation. Why stay and support it? Why get sick? There are plenty of choices out there.

Since I lead a congregation, I had plenty to say about the situation. We sang "Oh God Our Help in Ages Past" and "A Mighty Fortress" and "God Bless Our Native Land." The baby of the congregation sang out, "We wil we will rock you." We thought about making that the theme song of Desert Storm, The Final Episode, Part I.

In the sermon I preached about Romans 13:1-4 (the role of the sword, government leaders as "ministers of God" in their responsibility to suppress evil). Our government has a religious duty and a constitutional duty to protect us. There is neither a religious duty nor a constitutional duty to be sensitive and caring about terrorists.

Our attendance is always 100%, except for illness or travel. We all agree about doctrine and politics. We think it is necessary to be armed against criminals and terrorists, that we must strike back hard to end the barbaric slaughter of innocent civilians.

I listed various victims in the bulletin - "In Memory." I listed the firemen and policemen, the men who brought down the airliner by struggling with the terrorists, the civilian and military deaths.

Congregations should pray for their government officials in the Sunday prayer. They should also remember Memorial Day as something more than an excuse to leave town for a vacation.

My mother used to say "If you don't know, ask and you might learn". I figure, Momma knows best.

Lamentations 3:19 - 4:1. God withdraws His hand of protection from those who turn from His commandments; however, there is hope for those who are faithful and return to Him.

Impassioned singing, quadruple the number of visitors, and ten times the normal number of students in the new semester's Evangelism Explosion class. Plus the previously planned church picnic on the grounds.

Of more than 30 members who work in the Pentagon, no one was lost or hurt. Many were providentially called out of the building for meetings, medical appointments, temporary duty elsewhere. Many serve as aides or advisors to high officials.

We are searching for God's purpose for our church, at such a time as this.

Been to a true Southern Baptist Church lately? I don't mean one of those scared to offend Jimmy Carter types..a true, conservative, Southern Baptist Church? The evil of the world and the Redepmtion of Christ are staples of every sermon....

Hey, I go to one every Sunday. (Well, almost every Sunday; I miss every now and then.) Our congregation generally runs 800-1000 on Sunday morning. Our pastor is conservative, patriotic, very well-informed historically, and not at all shy about politics.

Today we sang or heard sung a number of patriotic songs. We prayed for strength, guidance, and wisdom for President Bush and our other leaders and our military. We did a bit of study on the issue of turning from our wicked ways and seeking His face, after which He promises to heal our land.

Importantly, we were reminded that God is in control and that our best security comes through a relationship with Jesus.

The stories do look interesting. Thanks for the link. But I was interested more in the process. You hear more about some saints than others, and I thought Catholics had a particular devotion to Mary, so I wondered how one country gets Mary as its patron saint rather than another country ....

Pastor Steve Coleman at First Church of the Nazarene in Longview, Tx. used as his text Isaiah's words about not trusting in armies, and instead, trusting in the Lord. He also referred to Habakkuk, when the prophet asked the Lord to cleanse Israel of wickedness and the Lord did, but the instrument of cleansing was an even more wicked people, the Babylonians. The point was support the president, support our leaders, support our armed forces, but to trust in God.

That was the basic message of today's sermon at my Church (Faith Baptist in Memphis, TN). The pastor also said that he was willing to do whatever was asked of him by his country, and while he is possibly too old to serve, he would encourage his sons, when of age, to serve if necessary. I don't speak for him, but I believe he feels as I do...that the United States, despite the flaws of it's people, is at it's heart a Christian nation (at least in the desires of it's founders) and must be defended to provide a safe haven for the spread of God's Word.

You can boil down just-war theory or application by way of applying the criteria of jus ad bellum (those deciding whether a war is justified) (re: Romans 13 for ex) and jus ad bello criteria (once war has commenced or, I think, become an eventuality or necessity) namely: competent authority, just cause, proportionality of proposed means vs. probable costs in the light of the probability of success in accomplishing the aims of the war, exhaustion of peaceful means of resolution to the precipitating factors and right intent.

By way of refuting notions of pacifism, I would note in a discussion of just war (though I did not go into much detail in the homily)that the New Testament sets up as positive examples of faith Abraham and other OT figures who engaged in just military action: Romans 4:11; Hebrews 11:8-10, 33,34; re: Gen.14:13-16.

May the Lord bless our nation.
