The "Pacifists" are coming out of the woodwork
campus bulletin boards ^ | 17 Sept 2001 | unknown juvenile twits

Okay, my first question is-- WHO DO THEY THINK THEY'RE KIDDING?! Let me put this into context: this is the text of a flyer that's being posted around the campus where I attend graduate school:

WAR IS TERRORISM

Contact your Congressmen and speak out against unneeded and violent retaliation. The lives of foreign peoples [sic] and US soldiers will not bring back those lost in the recent tragedy in New York.
For more information about US foreign policy and the events that have taken place in the US and abroad, refer to the following websites:
www.indymedia.org
www.zmag.org
www.wtowatch.org
www.globalexchange.org
www.wto.org
www.protest.net
www.slashdot.org
Throughout the 20th Century violence and military might has been used to curb international terrorism. It hasn't worked. We need a new solution for a new century. Let's show that America has learned something from Vietnam, from Libya, from Iraq, from Israel, and Afghanistan.
Above all, don't listen to CNN and the major news networks. They say we are at war. They say that this is the new Pearl Harbor. Inform yourself. Terrorism is not new. Learn from the mistakes of the past.
Keep yourself informed and inform Congress in turn. The only way we can prevent needless violence is through active protest.
[emphasis mine]

I won't even address the appalling sentence structure and composition (and this is one of the better schools... sheesh...)-- that last line gets me. What, d'ya think suicidal religious fanatics are going to pay attention to a few flyers and some nude picketing?! The sheer assininity of kids these days floors me... Didn't bother to check out the links, but I speculate it's more of the same...

So my question to the rest of y'all is, how much anti-war rhetoric have you come across so far?

I just heard on the radio that they have cancelled the WTO meetings later this month in DC but protest organizers are now saying that they are coming anyway to protest the military response to the terrorist attack. Estimates of 10-20 thousand protesters.

I wouldn't worry about it. At the University of Dayton, where I teach, the students are too apathetic to get too worked up about anything one way or another. But I DON'T see any "anti-war" sentiment out there.

It is interesting that the local socialist club had its little posters up announcing a planned protest of the World Bank in NYC just before the terrorist attacks . . . and suddenly they have disappeared. I was hoping they would keep them up, and drive people away from their stupid cause.

It does seem to be increasing. But until this post, it seemed that it was only from those on the fringes of society.
Regarding college students, they must be brainwashed by their professors, who are leftover '60s college radicals. I went to law school at CU-Boulder--Im going to call them or check out their website to see what they're saying. I would hope that the moms & dads who still pay the bills for these kids would talk a little sense into them.

I've seen the anti-war movement up close and personal in downtown Chicago
when I was discharged from the Navy in '69.
I was cursed at, yelled at, ridiculed, and denied entrance
to Nortwestern University simply because I was a Viet Nam Vet.
Then, as now, my support for the 1st amendment and free speech remains the same.

One thing HAS changed, if I see an anti-war protestor
HARMING anyone in the military OR anyone who supports our country,
OR damaging government or personal property
I will personally exercise my right to place them under citizens arrest.

So anti-war protestors be warned DO NOT CROSS THE LINE OF FREE SPEECH
and commit a criminal act, because if I see you I will personally take you to jail.

Minds full of mush. Check that. Socialist minds full of mush. Idiots. You know you can lead a horse (mind) to water (education) but you can't make it drink (think). Forget those fools a go about your life.

The lives of foreign peoples [sic] and US soldiers will not bring back those lost in the recent tragedy in New York.

That's never the purpose. Like capital punishment, the purpose for the prosecution of a war is elimination. Whoever and whatever you eliminate can no longer threaten, terrorize, harm, or kill you.

BTW, fools, "active protest" won't bring them back either, so you aren't offering anything that solves the objection you opened with.

Instead of bitching about it, why don't you and your friends make up some pro war and retaliation flyers and post them all over school right beside the little weenies' flyers

Flipping through the channels last night I stopped to listen to a Roman Catholic nun speaking with a panel of 4 other Catholic leaders, taking calls about the terrorist attack and the accepted position of the church. One man, so angry his voice trembled, talked of losing a friend at the WTC and how could the Catholic church NOT support going after these terrorists? All panelists agreed that they were to pray for the terrorists, not retaliate in any way. I was shocked. Still trying to process this, because the Protestant church looks to Daniel, Joshua, etc. plus the required military service of early Jews, government as separate from individual, etc. The RCC is influential in this country and could sway many. ???

I had a conversation with a Red Cross worker on the subway. We were returning from the area and we both had witnessed the site from a physically close distance. We agree on one thing in particular—the emotional impact of the death toll has yet to hit the average American. Once that does occur, you will see a real transformation, not this media-fed junk we're seeing now.

The people near you are much better than the dimwits who I must deal with at Rutgers University. In the past week chalk peace signs are being drawn all over the place with a particular nasty one saying to stop American imperialism.

I cut U of M out of my will and I believe that witholding $ is the only way to get college execs to deal with the leftover garbage from aquarious. These people have been spewing their filth for 30 yrs unopposed and if the right had imams I would ask for a fatwa on their cockroach infested heads.

American was not born by the actions of pacifists and has never been sustained by pacifists. It takes a lot of blood to maintain freedom in a violent and evil world.

only from those on the fringes of society

Hmmmm... Well these kids (and I among them) were raised by the free-love free-will free-$$ generation... Who can be surprised at anything.

Re: apathy: Yep, around here it's pretty much the geeks and the Greeks and devil take the rest, but there are small vocal liberal groups who tend to drown out the waxing and waning (not to mention dull as God's dirt, sorry) College Republicans... Virtually all campus demonstrations etc. are engineered by these leftist kids. They're usually bright, committed and forceful. These are the liberal a$$holes of the upcoming decades, y'all...
