Amen to that.
Vietnam is the model of our adversaries; we must steel ourselves for even more of the communist style guerilla tactics which seemed so cute to journalism when applied in a foreign land. And we must expect the same instincts--damn America with faint praise, and praise our enemies with faint condemnation--to show up in journalism. But we also have done some serious thinking ourselves, and some things just won't wash anymore.
No journalist need think to rail with impunity about an "establishment;" we are aware that mass journalism is "the establishment." And the victims of that establishment--our Vietnam-era veterans, and also no few Vietnamese--are here on our shores. I make no doubt that they remember.
Those with memory can arm themselves with legal recourse.
Yes, I do believe these words get right to the truth of the matter. Usually we Americans have a hard time hanging together in unity for any length of time. The losses will be great, but if we presevere, we can win. If we continue to be hit here at home, that will shore up our determination and unity. God Bless America
