First, YES, I know this is a vanity post and my apologies to the vanity police.

My son just approached me asking for 3 "PRO" arguments for having the Federal Government take over the logging industry. Smelling a rat, I donned my UNC Chapel Hill hat and tried to come up with three reasons. I told him I was at a loss. I couldn't think of any good reason. I can make some pretty good guesses as to what reasons the teacher might be looking for, but I explained to him how these "PRO" arguments automatically spawn "CON" arguments. He did mention that if he could come up with three "CON" arguments, than he could go in that direction too. Knowing the intelligence level of Freepers as I do and not being up-to-date on the Foresting Industry I would like to solicit any expert responses from those interested.

Can I bother any freepers for some ideas?

I own thirty acres of redwoods which are harvested every ten years or so. The first thing I think of, to answer your question, is that I simply don't want the Feds on my land. If the Feds took over logging it, it wouldn't be mine anymore, so there is a private property aspect in this issue.

There is also the financial issue; we have maintained and protected these trees for more than 30 years, and the profit from the harvest helps defray the cost of forest maintenance.

1) It will ensure that lumber prices increase 200%.
2) It will force homebuilders to go back to adobe, an "earth-friendly" building material.
3) It will make "tree-sitting" a federal crime, therefore nobody will ever be charged.
