for as long as the Islamist terrorists had the initiative, everything was running according to a Hollywood script. But only until that point. The Americans are putting an end to the movie. And they are also putting an end to any form of predictability, even by the notoriously anti-American groups in Europe. For the Islamic terrorists, nothing could be more disruptive to strategic planning than this change of script.

Very interesting article, MoJo! Thanks for finding & posting it!

The men who studied in Hamburg were all from middle-class backgrounds.

Well, that's assuming that we know the true identities of the hijackers. Apparently, many of the names and passports were stolen or fake. But it's probably safe to assume that they were middle class, educated individuals, judging from the fact that they were able to blend into our culture long enough to learn to fly and board the planes without attracting attention.

Good article.

It was hardly coincidence that CNN used the apocalyptic title "The Day After" for its coverage. In Hollywood's imagination, in the 1980s and '90s the attack on the Pentagon alone would have unleashed the big strike.

And the media still doesn't get: from Fox to the local news stations(shudder), they're stamping their feet in impatience for the next "event," while the American people, the polls show, pretty much understand that this might take a while.

Great post -- thanks, MoJo.

From the other side of the pond no less. What George W. Bush did thursday night showed the world he was a leader, not a follower. He could of easily passed the buck by saying he would consult with the U.N. and move forward once the coalition actions were approved by the U.N.

Instead...George W. Bush said he would lead the world in this battle against terrorism, with no mention of the U.N. He made unconditional demands with confidence, he made threats that were convincing (Turn over the terrrorist or share in their fate). This is a guy that has faced more obstacles since Novemeber 7th, 2000 than many presidents have faced in a full 4 year term, and he overcame them all. He surrounded himself with the most powerful cabinet this country has ever seen. And as he promised....he has delivered on most, if not all of his campaign promises in just 8 months. And now he is faced with the first attack on American soil since 1812 and he has stepped up to the plate and has shown the world he can lead it. NOT BAD for a guy who was never given a chance!

God Bless America

& God Bless George W. Bush.

...a type of global terrorist whose ideology consists essentially of nothing but murdering other people.

This is exactly right! Amazing that someone in Europe (a.k.a. the land of "Blame America First, Last and Everywhere In Between") sees the enemy with such clarity. Good post.

This is really something. President Bush is quickly becoming almost mythic in his strength and determination. Thursday's speech inflamed the hearts of freedom loving men and women all over the world. Thank God he's in the White House.

Raspberries to the UN! It's going the way of the League of Nations: Kaput.

I can't explain why, but I am suddenly, for the first time in a long time, optimistic.

Relationships are going to change radically, and to some surprisingly. We're into some big time history here, and some very painful and tough times, as an age changes and leaders might disappoint us (or astonish us). But get out your colored pencils, kids, because before too awfully long the map is going to change again. We're in for some big surprises! And I have a gut feeling that, not because of current world leaders but by God's grace, we're *not* going to have to color most of it in varying shades of pink.

FANTASTIC, fantastic article. I was just about to post it. Great job!!!!

WFTD class, please keep this bumped to the rest of the class.

This is one of the best, most hopeful pieces of analyses to come out of Europe since the horror.
