NO AMNESTY FOR FUTURE DRAFT DODGERS

Posted on 09/23/2001 5:07:44 PM PDT by Fee

All across the US there is also a small but vocal anti-war group that probably will refuse to serve their country if a draft is necessary. Many come from rich and connected families. They will use anything to protect their kids and screw the patriots in this country. I think any city or university that gives them sanctuary should have their federal funds cut. Any person who refuses to serve should not go to jail but face the following penalties, conviction of a felony (this deprives them the right to own firearms and even the right to vote), lose their right to hold federal jobs or run for public office, the right to get federal loans/grants, and when they are old, will not have the right to Social Security and Medicare benefits. The people of this country should support a Constitutional Admendment making this one time offense nonpardonable by the Prssident of the United States. I have known personally of some vets who were screwed by government for their services. Draft dodgers were granted amnesty before anyone recognized the sacrifices made by the vets. PATRIOTS be smart, before you give your sons and daughters for the war efforts, make sure their services, and ultimately their sacrifices are protected under law and the US Constitution.

I disagree. Let them go. But publically post their names and never let them back into the country without paying a large fee for a visitation visa. Canada can have them and so can Mexico. Remember what Patton said: "Cowards only breed more cowards". Time to clean up our gene pool and get it back in line with the way it used to be.

God forbid a draft-dodger ever be elected to public office. We've been there, and know what it's like. Nations that accept dodgers should be included on W's, "against us," list. Canada, take heed...

Tell me if you'd make exception for conscientious objectors based on their opposition to participation in any war, i.e. Quakers, Amish, pacifists...

I don't know if he was a draft-dodger. But he certainly is feeding at the public trough.

There will be no draft, so this is a moot point, and not worthy of a vanity post at that.

A just war waged by a free country does not need a draft, more than enough citizens will volunteer to fight. Enlistees make better soldiers anyway. If any country cannot get enough volunteers to defend itself, there is something very wrong.

However, if a draft has to be, then personally, I would like to see older, richer, whiter, people get drafted also, if anybody is to be drafted. Back in the 1960's, it disturbed me very much to find out that very few sitting members of congress had their own sons in combat in the Vietnam war. I checked further, and very few members of congress during vietnam, had served in the armed forces during ww2, a much smaller percentage than the population at large.

I would like to see some 30 year olds, and some 40 year olds get drafted if we did have a draft. The 30 and 40 year olds never got to go to vietnam, and dont have any idea what war is all about. Everyone should have a chance to serve the country in its battles, there is no reason the x-generation should be immune to battle just because they think they got off because they are our of their 20's.

The original idea by our founding fathers was that everyone(males) 18-50 should fight in a war, and it is still a good idea. Dont just draft the unmarried kids.

I really dont believe we would have had the draft demonstations in the 1960's that we did if the draft would have been made more equitable- if we had drafted rich and poor, black and white, college or no college, 18-50 years old, married or not.

With all due respect, since there is a HUGE surge of patriotism and the Services are unundated with candidates for Service and the Draft is unlikely to be resumed again,

it will not be necesaary to pardon draft dodgers,

....especially if there is NO future DRAFT, as presently seems likely,

based upon the Statements from the Pentagon & Administration, itself.

Free speech frightens you does it?

Many come from rich and connected families.

Why don't we instigate envy and class warfare? Apparently you are a socialist at heart.

I have known personally of some vets who were screwed by government for their services.

This sounds autobiographical. Do you hold a grudge against the government and everyone who has managed to lead a successful life since Vietnam?

...be smart, before you give your sons and daughters for the war efforts, make sure their services, and ultimately their sacrifices are protected under law and the US Constitution.

Now you're saying to encourage your children to dodge the draft unless they receive certain guarantees. That's very patriotic! You are a hypocite. You are a socialist. You are a prime example of the muck that contaminates Free Republic.

Those who would coerce others to risk their lives for their own benefit are no better than the Colonial slave owners who forced their slaves to fight and die in their stead.

Your proposal is morally corrupt to its core. You put yourself on the same level as those who commited the atrocities of 9/11.

Voluntarily risking one's life in defense of others is noble. Forcing others to do the same is pure evil.

No doubt in my mind that many of these cowards have not registered for the draft which is required by EVERY male when he reaches age 18.

I've rethought my opinion about conscientious objectors. If they are unwilling to defend their homeland, they don't deserve a homeland to defend. Were it not for blood already shed by patriots in the past, there would be no freedom here now; i.e., they wouldn't have the freedom of speech or religion.
