ISLAMABAD, Sept 27 (Reuters) - Mullah Mohammad Omar, leader of Afghanistan's ruling Taliban, has accepted what he called an offer to mediate from U.S. civil rights leader Jesse Jackson, the Afghan Islamic Press quoted the Taliban ambassador to Pakistan as saying on Thursday.

"We have not invited him (Jackson), but he has made an offer to mediate which has been accepted by our leader Mullah Mohammad Omar," Ambassador Abdul Salam Zaeef told the Afghan Islamic Press.

In a further bid to try to solve the crisis involving U.S. demands that the Taliban hand over the world's most wanted man, Osama bin Laden, the ambassador said a team of Pakistani clerics and officials would visit Omar's stronghold, Kandahar, to meet the reclusive leader on Friday.

Jackson said on Wednesday he was considering an invitation from representatives of Afghanistan's ruling Taliban to discuss U.S. pressure to surrender Islamic militant bin Laden.

Turn Jesse into a human remote controlled bomb, let him go and set him off when he meets with the Taliban, that way we kill two birds with one stone.

Jackson, like Al Sharpton, has become a cartoon figure, a joke.

He does not and can not represent the United States: Jesse Jackson represents only Jesse Jackson. Jesse Jackson is only interested in promoting Jesse Jackson.

In this trip, he saw an opportunity -- not to advance the interests of the United States -- but as some cheap, PR victory venue to wash away the stain of his filthy, abominable personal and financial corruption.

Is there anything act in this country that rises to the level of treason anymore? To my mind, this would certainly qualify.

I hate this guy more than the Clintonites. Is there any lower form of huuman being than this guy who would use this tragedy to further his own political goals.

Perhaps he will win the Bob Simons Award for non-miltary personnel being captured by the enemy as a result of foolish behavior. I wonder who will be the first big name (yellow)journalist to stumble upon a group of 19 year old frothing-at-the-mouth fanatics in the hills around kabul?

Both the UAE and Saudia Arabia have broken long standing diplomatic relations with the Taliban, because neither of them could convince the Taliban to turn over ben Laden. What gives anyone the idea that Jackson could have any effect except delay things to give the Talibon more time to prepare, and ben Laden more time to escape?

The POTUS has said there will be no negotiations with the Taliban. There is an imminent military strike, which could only benefit the Taliban if delayed. Jackson has no inkling of the various diplomatic, financial, and military steps in progress. He cannot help but screw them up.

It appears that Jackson's attempts to win the spotlight may, in fact, be treason. He should be prosecuted accordingly.

Jesse has shot himself in the foot here. I actually believed that the Taliban had asked him to come there. I noticed in the Washington Post story a more critical approach to reporting on him regarding this. Specifically, they were referring to the fundraiser he held where he mentioned the Taliban's proposed overture to him.

This type of meddling in our nation's affairs can land one in jail.

I wish they would put him in jail before he gets somebody killed.

Is it against the law to be a self serving, self promoting, meddlesome SOB?
