We, the U.S.S. Catskill LSV-1(my ship)landed Marines on Leyte, P.I. Oct. 20, 1944 initial assault and again on Okinawa Shima, Ryukyu, Japan April 1st 1945 initial assault.
My brother-in-law Ernest Alphons Jacobi with the Sixth Marine Division was wounded on the 23rd of June 1945 and died on the 30th of June 1945 of his wounds.
The U.S Marines are the greatest fighting Force ever assembled, and no less can be said about the U.S. Army's foot-slogging Infantry or the Rangers or the Paratroops or the Special Forces or the U.S. Navy Seals.
May Almighty God keep them all safe from harm and from evil!
Well, God bless you for freeing the world from the horrors of Imperial Japan. The US Marines are still on the island of Okinawa, I was on Kadena AFB in the 80s, met lots of Marines. I pray God will speed them to victory over these terrorist scum.
My dad was in the 6th Marine Division from Guadalcanal to Iwo Jima. He's 78 now and almost blind. To this day, he cannot bring himself to talk about the fierce campaigns he took part in against the Japanese in the Pacific.
