Look at the date on the original post. This is old.

Shermy, thanks for bringing this back up. This is just frightening, and appears it got little play when it was posted back then.

If this story is true, it is probably more of a psychological mission (psy-op?) than one planned with the real intent to kill the President. If the Secret Service is so inept as to allow "journalists" in to see the President without clearance, Bush's days are numbered. Amen. Remember Masoud in Afghanistan, probably the best warlord and leader, assassinated with the exploding camera under the pretext of an interview. Maybe these guys were going to try this in America but were frustrated.

I frequently visit Longboat Key as it's one of my favorite "shopping and lunch" destinations. The Colony is a pricey complex of muted grey-blue, low-height, woodsy-looking hotel rooms nestled among thick palm and garden areas.
Paths lead hither and thither from building to building and to the restaurant area. It's secluded, but right off the main and only road running along the narrow islet that is Longboat Key. LK is adjacent to Sarasota.
I'm sure (and I hope) the President was well-protected as there's so many hiding places.
The Colony has the best rack-of-lamb I ever had!.

Lamb and mutton are very under-appreciated. Tasty!
Funny, when I was a kid back in the '60s, lambchops, leg of lamb, and good old mutton stew and barbeque were common bills of fare. Rare now.

Not around here!
I love lamb and cook it every chance I get.
Mutton is a bit more difficult - tends to be tough - I use it in stews, mostly, or ground.

A sure sign that a story isn't going anywhere is when the story goes from a possible assassination attempt on the POTUS to who serves the best Lamb :-)

makes me wonder if they were trying the same gig that they did with the leader of the Northern aliance in afganistan. What town was this in?

You're right about that date; I hadn't caught that.

Again, apologies to all for being distracted by the mention of tasty rack-of-lamb (Drool!)
Ahem, back On-Topic. This may have been a clumsy attempt at the President. The timing is suspicious.
Perhaps it was the "D-minus" team of Jihadis.
It bears investigating. If these jerks can be caught, they will talk. No, they will sing like canaries. Most of their talk will be BS, but there may be a pony in all that horsesh-t.

I grilled lamb steaks tonight with mesquite. Very tasty!

My specialties are Cajun-seasoned loin chops (mmmm-hmmm, lamb chops!) and whole leg of lamb baked in a crust of yoghurt, onion, garlic, and Indian spices.
Whether you would like rack of lamb (or crown roast) or the individual chops depends on how much you like the "outside meat". I REALLY like outside meat. But for "company dinner" nothing can compare with a full crown roast with the ends of the rib bones frenched, with the center filled with rice pilaf strewn with almonds and golden raisins . . .
wow, I'm going to have to go to the Publix and buy some lamb . . . .

It worked for my husband when I met him as a sophomore in college . . . in fact, since he was essentially starving trying to cook illicitly in a dorm room, it probably was MORE effective then, than now.
While the lamb's cooking, we can get back on topic. I'm a little suspicious of this story, because these sorts of tales were a dime a dozen right after 9/11 -- all sorts of strange rumors were making the rounds.
I'm pretty sure at this point the Secret Service has checked out whatever is known to them -- even if they may have blown a few things off before 9/11. But, as the president has said, a lot of this war will never be known to the public -- at least not for many years.
