In my son's mailbox at college

As we continue to process the events affecting our nation

ONE
Anonymous

As the soot and dirt and ash rained down,
We became one color.

As we carried each other down the stairs of the burning building,
We became one class.

As we lit candles of waiting and hope,
We became one generation.

As the firefighters and police officers fought their way into the inferno,
We became one gender.

As we fell to our knees in prayer for strength,
We became one faith.

As we whispered or shouted words of encouragement,
We spoke one language.

As we gave blood in lines a mile long,
We became one body.

As we mourned together the great loss,
We became one family.

As we cried tears of grief and loss,
We became one soul.

As we retell with pride of the sacrifice of heroes,
We became one people.

It's good to grieve, for those who need it. Enough already.

As we continue to process the events affecting our nation

As the soot and dirt and ash rained down,
We became one color.

Then we went home and showered, and were ourselves again.

As we carried each other down the stairs of the burning building,
We became one class.

Men carrying men and women. Women helping others.

As we lit candles of waiting and hope,
We became one generation.

Our parents told us what would happen if we befriended evil; we'll have to relearn the lesson.

As the firefighters and police officers fought their way into the inferno,
We became one gender.

As the day wore on, the stamina and strength of the X-X chromosomed waned.

As we fell to our knees in prayer for strength,
We became one faith.

NOT one faith; many faiths with a common enemy.

As we whispered or shouted words of encouragement,
We spoke one language.

Horsepuckey. A common message in many languages.

As we gave blood in lines a mile long,
We became one body.

They're reaching, here...

As we mourned together the great loss,
We became one family.

I hope not, if my dysfunctional family is any indication.

As we cried tears of grief and loss,
We became one soul.

Never happened. Some were crying for relatives, some for money lost, some because there was a Republican President.

As we retell with pride of the sacrifice of heroes,
We became one people.

...and the cowards are wailing to "give Peace a chance"; screaming for forgiveness. How much more chance do we give Peace?

One People?
One People?
One People?

If we were One People, how did we let ourselves do this to us?

Any more of this P.C. touchy-feely, feel-good-but-don't-change-garbola will cause me to throw fish.

The college counselors need counseling; or is it me?

It's touchy feely, but it is the way it should be. It would have a better chance of being reality if instead of divisiveness for political gain, politicans gave us more of a common ground.

What do you recommend, wise one? Do you agree we're one people, one faith, one color, one gender?

It's touchy feely, but it is the way it should be.

Because Americans can't deal with reality, or because Americans don't want to do so?

What is your reality dear heart? In crisis people find a common ground, maybe it will cause us to take a little better care of each other, who knows?

If you wish to walk around with your pissy additude and dysfunctional family you are free to do so, but just remember that NO ONE will be listening to you, including probably yourself.
As far as being one, I am not ready to form a circle and start singing "kum-by-ya" either, but I Have noticed a whole lot less discord the last three weeks with the PC silly crap taking the biggest hit. I just don't want some sour ol' b@stard to spoil it.

Right. The PC junk died on 11 Sep.

We're Protestants, Catholics, and Jews; against islamic terrorists. Black, white, red, yellow; young old, middle-aged; conservative, and liberal. We with our differences; us against them.

But we're not one people, one gender, one color. As soon as terrorism has been whipped, we'll be back at each others throats. Democrats and Republicans. Us against them.

You could be right of course, and you probably are, but this shocker has been so stark that I think it will change some of the divisive retoric from politicians for quiet some time.
