There is considerable concern in Jerusalem that the Bush administration is allowing terrorist states to join the war on terrorism.

Just like the Gulf War Israel is being told to hold off on its national interests for the sake of this unholy alliance. Israel may have to finally define herself outside of the context of American interests in this respect and consider Arafat, the Islamic Jihad, Hamas, Fatah, Force 17, etc. the object of its own war on terrorism once and for all regardless of U.S. interests. If this jeopardizes the relationship and the few billion in economic aid and short term whining and pain, then that will have to be the case. It's that or Israel will be defined solely by the whim of U.S. foreign policy and the further destruction of innocent Jews by the terrorist pigs which largely makeup the "Palestinians".

Maybe Israel should consider a realignment with Russia.

I am a christian as well, and I resent the implications on this post. Thank you Lent for your input....I agree completely with everything you wrote.

Sorry to say that you are right. We're losing our honor where Israel is concerned and I think it's a disgrace. Prime Minister Sharon should act in Israel's best interest and do what must be done to protect his citizens. America can't be counted on while we're so busy cozying up to Arab butchers. I hope that President Bush doesn't forget who our friends really are. One could have expected that from clinton, but I hoped W would be more trustworthy.

That's exactly right. The $3B in annual aid helps but is less than 5% of the GNP. They cannot and should not be asked to trade 3 lives a day for this money. Furthermore, neither Bush nor the State Department controls that money, Congress does. Israel can tell the State Department to stuff their opinions up their collective a$$es and then go about doing what's right for Israel.

re : Israel may have to finally define herself outside of the context of American interests .

Maybe that time will soon come.

America is in the Middle east because of the Oil, that is why she supports dictatorships such as Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, and corrupt governments such as Egypt.

But if America was to relinquish her control of the pro Western Arab states, would there be any need for her to be in the Middle East at all.

I know people talk about standing up for democracy but in real terms it is just fine rhetoric that is all, after all during the cold war with the Soviet Union, both sides destabilised countries they felt were unfriendly or too neutral, both sides shored up dictatorships.

Israel’s best bet is to go her own way and find a way of dealing with the Middle East problem.
