Lou Gehrig, weeks before his death, in a speech at Yankee Stadium: "Today I am the luckiest man on the face of the earth."
Rush Limbaugh: "I am a Lucky Man"
Sometimes, adversity doesn't build character. It reveals it.
Godspeed, Rush.

My advice: turn show over to Mike Savage and do a daily commentary at the beginning of the second hour.
On a personal level, if Rush is not a Christian, its time he becomes one. If he is, he must trust God that "all things work together for the good". Everything about this life is temporal. Politics is interesting but it is not the answer to the worlds problems. His life could be a tremendous testimony when his hearing is completely restored. That day is coming, and maybe this needed to happen so Rush could get the spiritual blinders off his eyes. St. Paul was blinded in order to knock him off his high horse, and this may be following a similar pattern. Rush always said ""with talent on loan from God". Maybe the loan is past due and he needs to refocus his prioritys on eternal goals, not vain temporal goals like jet airplanes and fancy golf outings. "For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul".

I'm so sorry to hear this. I have every confidence that this will be overcome one way or another. I like Rush and will include him in my prayers.

What a champ Rush is! God grant him the grace and fortitude to deal with and overcome his present affliction. I love him all the more because of it.

All those times that you thought I was on vacation or playing golf, I've been in an MRI machine or getting blood drawn, or on a stress EKG machine or at a cardiologist - wherever - hearing aid doctor, the hearing doctor, where have you.Now I feel bad about making fun of him for talking so much about golf.
He'll always be welcome here on FR...
GOOD LUCK, RUSH!

Seems like you're being pretty rough on a guy you only know from hearing on the radio.
I can't speak to how religious he is personally. I only know that:
- He defends religious freedom vigorously.
- He recognizes that his talent is "on loan," just as Christians recognize that they are only "renting" their personal possessions.
- He has always talked about what interests him, and has never been bashful about saying so. The mere possession of a corporate jet and intense like for playing golf don't make him a rampant materialist.
- He annually donates program time and writes a huge check to the Leukemia Society, which raises millions in the space of three hours (I can't name another host that does anything similar).
You don't know that he isn't focused on eternal goals. He keeps religious arguments out of his broadcasts because he thinks it's no fun to hear Christians bash each other over Biblical interpretations (and I agree).

This is so sad :( Please know,Rush that you are in my prayers. GOD BLESS!

Politics is the source of most of the world's problems....Good luck to Rush.

Is there something in our technical circuitry, in the connections from here to New York, to wherever our signal goes to get the program to you that's causing some of these fluctuations to take place, in addition to whatever may be happening with my voice? It might be the disgronificator. You might wanna check that.

The disgronificator. I miss that term from the TV program. I don't think he's used it on the radio.

Thanks for taking the time to transcribe this. I missed it on the radio, so I appreciate being able to read it rather than just the responses others are making.
Rush has been entertaining our household for about eight years. Wishing him comfort, peace, and joy. (Thanks, Rush, for your wonderful insight and great wit!)

Mega Dittos, Rush! Make no mistake that it was by God's design that it was your Left ear (to tune out the liberals) and not your RIGHT ear. :)

"...There is a theory as to what's happening, but I'm going to keep that to myself. It is not genetic. There's something more going on than that. I have been through every conceivable medical test and exam this summer you can imagine."Am I the only one that saw this?
Could he believe this was done to him by outside forces?
It seems taking somebody's hearing wouldn't be the most obvious way to silence them, so.....
...what did he mean?
To: litany_of_lies
Maybe Russel is right about Rush not being a Christian. Did anyone hear the comment he made today about "his Rabbi"? Maybe Rush is Jewish.
