MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (AP) _ About 150 students walked out of classes at Wesleyan University Monday to protest the American and British bombing in Afghanistan.
Demonstrators said a violent response to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks will only provoke more violence. They urged government leaders to develop a peaceful solution.
``We're trying to critically think about ways in which we could affect a movement of peace,'' Wesleyan senior Ritu Sen told WVIT-TV.
Last month, students formed a coalition against violent retaliation.
Other students said they supported bombing Taliban targets in Afghanistan, while some said they had mixed feelings.
``I'm frustrated because I'm not sure what our other options are,'' said Nicole Wellington, a senior at the university. ``A lot of people on campus here are saying they don't support the war, but they're not proposing any other options besides peace.''
The university has scheduled several teach-ins _ lectures, panel discussions and question-and-answer sessions designed to educate the community about terrorist attacks and America's response.

"We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something, you use them as a punchline! I have neither the time, nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it! I would rather you just said 'Thank you', and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think you are entitled to!"

I swear I wish all parents (who could) would pull their students out of college to protest these idiotic anti-american pacifists. I can't believe they are still allowing these idiots who haven't even experienced the world yet give their freakin opinion about anything. They haven't seen working people's lives in NYC ripped apart by the events on Sept. 11. They stay in their own little world at school and have everything just so. I wish they would shut up.

...from Hitlery's Alma Mater. Hillary went to Wellesley, not Wesleyan, but your point is well taken. If I were making the sacrifices necessary to send a kid to one of those high-ticket Universities and I found out he/she walked out of class for a protest of this nature, I'd yank that kid back home so fast his/her head would swim.

Don't let their Birkenstocks hit them in the ass on the way out.

Who cares what these privileged little brats do? Its like Vietnam; their same-aged compatriots who are MEN and WOMEN, not boys and girls, are fighting to protect them. If the students at posh Wesleyan University and the entire prissy student population of the Ivy League want to walk out of fingerpainting class and stay out of fingerpainting class its fine with me and its a finger to their parents who pay $35,000 a year to send them there.

It takes a pretty smart kid to realize the degree of brainwashing going on. Even if they do realize it, and even if they disagree, the power position of professor demands that kids make or fake shows of anti-patriotism in return for good grades...

Think harder, folks...that's what you are supposed to learn how to do in college....sounds like you are failing, which in turn, means your institution is failing.
"War is not the answer"
I've yet to hear an alternative that would provide any sort of security for our country.......

For every one of these stories, there should be a positive counter. Over the weekend I was attending an event just outside of Los Angeles, a street painting fetival. It was crowded on Saturday night, and while watching the crowd, I noticed 2 young marines in dress uniform with their girlfriends. People stopped and wished them well and thanks. It it made me proud to see my fellow citizens taking the time to thank and encourage those who serve in our Armed Forces. This was 12 hours before the bombing began in Afganistan.
