Beta Testing New Thread Layout *UPDATE*
Posted on 10/10/2001 4:50:55 PM PDT by John Robinson
Oh geez! Due to a bug, most people where not able to view the beta thread format with the default style sheet. I fixed that bug, and the beta thread format should look *MUCH* better.

Looks much nicer. The previous version was just hard to read. Adding the colored areas to seperate replies makes it much more readable.

I think it is hard to read

Looks the same to me.

At first I wasn't sure what you were trying to do, but now it's clear. We'll be able to reference comments to original and subsequent posts much much easer. Clicking on the right side takes you right to the post the current note is resonding to. There you can travel back to previous comments. We'll be able to follow a conversation very easily. I like it. To be honest this had been a secret desire of mine for some time. There were times when I felt compelled to repost comments for response. This should be a great addition to the forum. Thanks Jim. Great work.

It now looks like the old Alpha thread not the previous beta thread.

I would still like to be able to view the whole thread on a single HTML page, maybe a link called "view entire thread" would work? Of course, you could disable it for threads with more than, say, 100 responses. I like that because I use the browser text search (Control-F) on threads a lot to find responses with words or by people I'm interested in... just a thought. Otherwise, it looks great!

I think it is hard to readOnly at the bottom of the thread. There, the two sets of buttons visually merge.

VERY nice, John! I love the look with the new style sheet. Very clean and easy to read. In addition to cutting down on the bandwidth, I love being able to see all subsequent replies to a reply. :)

I like this much better, except the "comment to xxx by yyy" letters need to be a bit larger. Those of us who wear reading glasses will have a bit of a problem reading that. Otherwise...looks great!
To: Some hope remaining.
Ok, it only looks the same to me in netscape. If I try it in IE it does look much better.

When viewing in the beta format, is there a means to acquire the url of any specific reply within a thread?......
ie: #3
To: John Robinson
I notice now that in freep mail all you have to do is type the http://www.freerepublic.com with no html.
Could you please update us on what is possible in freepmail ie. italic, bold, underline, (use to be able to put images in).
What can and what can you not do?
To: John Robinson
I don't like the beta version. The blue line is distracting, the names of the FReepers are too small. IMHO, if it ain't broke, don't fix it :-)
To: John Robinson
It looks nice. You may consider aligning the "reply" etc buttons to the left or right instead of the center.
I think it's easy to read.

How stupid of me I didn't click on "beta".

Just click on the "To NNN" link at the bottom of any post.
