Canadian killed in Kuwait shooting Last Updated: Wed Oct 10 20:09:33 2001 KUWAIT CITY - The Canadian embassy in Kuwait has been told by local authorities that a Canadian man was shot to death in Kuwait. LINKS: Websites related to this story The shooting happened in a market south of Kuwait City at 11:30 p.m. local time on Wednesday. Canadian authorities have contacted the victim's family. Security sources say the attack may have been motivated by anger over the U.S.- led strikes in Afghanistan, but Canadian officials say there's no indication of a motive. The man is said to be in his 50s. His Filipina wife was also wounded with three gunshots. She's said to be in stable condition in an intensive care unit. High-ranking Kuwaiti officials are investigating the crime and will provide the Canadian embassy with more information as it becomes available. More details to come.

When I was in the Navy, I was on the first ship to visit Kuwait City after Desert Storm (in 1993). To the crew's disappointment, we were restricted to the pier for the entire 3 day visit due to threats. I see it is still not a very safe place for westerners.
