If you can believe this, in a Masters-level class we were asked 'If you could be any tree, what tree would you be?'. The inanity, the sheer smugness of it all makes me wretch. I am no tree; there is only life and death, truth and lies, good or evil. There ARE universal truths that intellectuals 'hate' in the Greek sense, and because they are ignored even people we would consider to be 'highly educated' are in fact quite infantile (and perhaps socially retarded) themselves.

I would say "I would be a Douglas fir. So, when I grow up, some lumber company can cut me down, make me into a baseball bat, and I can hit you over the head and knock some sense into you."
