I'm pretty sure these are Catholic, if you know some others why not ping them?

I hope I spelled their handles right.

You are Protestant because you never bothered to read the early writings of the Church. If you worshipped statues when you were 'catholic' than you committed a mortal sin. Educate yourself and you will come home to the Church that Jesus founded.

And please remember this is a Catholic-bashing free thread. Thank you.

Fatima is the name of a small town north of Lisbon, Portugal. There, on May 13, 1917, Our Lady appeared to three little shepherds: Lucia, and her two cousins, Jacinta and Francisco - then seven and eight years old. The "Beautiful Lady dressed in white and more brilliant than the sun," asked for prayers and sacrifice, so that " Our Lord may save humanity from all calamities and bring peace to the world..." A prayerful life consists of doing everything in God , with God, and for God. She emphasized a daily simple formula of praying called the Rosary, during which one reflects upon God's personal love for us. She stressed the fulfillment of one's daily duty according to the Gospel principles. This is the Fatima message and makes Fatima one of the 20th century's most pressing heavenly invitations to an authentic Christian Life. Our Lady appeared to the children every 13th of the month until October 13, 1917, when she gave the sign she had promised, so that the world might believe. On that day she proclaimed: "I am the Lady of the Rosary. Continue to say the Rosary everyday. Soon the war is going to end." Then came the sign for all who were there. It is called the MIRACLE OF THE SUN because witnesses saw the sun spinning down toward the earth, and they thought it was the end of the world. Instead the over 50,000 witnesses, drenched by the constant rain, found themselves to be perfectly dry as the sun went back in the sky, transforming that gloomy day into a glorious one.

She was a mere woman

Luke 1:28 "And the angel being come in, said unto her: Hail full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women."

The Mother of God is not a mere woman. Your failure to realize this is truly sad.

but don't idolize me.

Catholics don't idolize Mary. Catholics don't idolize God either. Catholics worship God alone. Catholics honor the Blessed Virgin Mary. Just as Christ honored His Mother, perfectly obeying the Fourth Commandment. We are called to imitate Christ. Your ignorance of Catholic beliefs and Scripture is telling, just as your appearance on these threads is.

Great Post. However according to Br. Micheal of the Blessed Trinity in his book "the Whole truth about Fatima" and the beautiful video with Richardo Montvand (Sp?), there were actually 80,000 souls who witness the miracle of the sun.

Pope Pius XII (who was consecrated bishop at the moment of the first apparition (May 13, 1917) saw the miracle of the sun from the Vatican geardens in 1950, when he was contemplating whether to define the doctrine of the Assuption, which he eventually did on November 1, 1950.

Also, Our Lady of Fatima told the children that she would meet them at the cova di Ira 6 more times (after May 13, 1917) Since the last apparition at Fatima that we know of was October 13, 1917, it means that we are still awaiting the last Fatima Apparition. Possibly at the moment of Our Lady's Triumph????

Thanks for the info.

At the moment Pope Pius XII was consecrated Bishop...that is fascinating part of the story I hadn't heard before.

A few years ago I went to the Our Lady Of Fatima National Shrine in NY while on vacation...my daughter was doing very bad in school, her handwriting/written language skills 4 years behind...We were starting special-ed evaluation as all concerned with her care didn't think she'd make it in a regular classroom. I went to the shrine to pray for her, scribbled my prayer on a note and lit a candle and prayed the rosary...I told God if this was his will for my daughter to give me strength to accept it. A few weeks later, back home in Michigan, a special "pilgrim" statue of Mary was being displayed in our church...I went to go see it...as I was walking up to the statue a woman stopped me and said she had heard about my daughter from a woman in the church...she was a doctor who thought she knew what was wrong with my daughter and that if she was right all my daughter needed was a few months of occupational therapy - she was only visiting the statue and I was lucky she happened to overhear my friends speaking concern for my daughter...I got her phone number, then continued up to the statue - surprised to see the plaque at the bottom: Our Lady of Fatima! I felt like Our Lady was personally delivering God's answer to my prayers. Those were my only two encounters I had ever had with Our Lady of Fatima. After occupational therapy, 4 months later, My daughter was up to grade level in her schoolwork in a regular classroom, she is now in middle school and gets all A's & B's.

Know the part of the Lord's Prayer (Protestant version) that goes "For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever"? Guess what? That's a "man made prayer" -- a liturgical prayer from a Catholic missal of the 9th Century. But you've no doubt said it.

I realize that your intentions are good. You simply need to read more about Church history and study the Catholic Faith. In the Catholic Church, you will find your true home.

Could you please define what a "Protestant version" Bible is? I myself am Protestant. My Bible is an Authorized 1611 King James Version, complete with Apocrypha. The part that goes "For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever"? is listed in Mathew 6:13 with that wording (other than some minor spelling issues, since it uses the old English).

On the other hand, my wifes Bible (a former Catholic, who received her Catholic bible on her first Communion) states the same passage (Mathew 6:13) as ""and do not subject us to the final test, but deliver us from the evil one"

Sorry, I'll take my Authorized 1611 King James over the Catholic New American Bible.

Plus, you claim that the prayer is a Man-made prayer? Interesting since my Bible has this as an example of how we should pray to the father, an example given by Jesus himself. Where in the Bible does Jesus give an example of how to pray to the Rosary to Mary?

It is not my intention to flame or cause arguements. I am wanting to learn and gain an understanding.

Lay Carmelite BUMP.

We honor the Blessed Virgin Mary, and are called to imitate Christ, as Mary herself said in her final words in the Bible: "Do whatever he tells you." (John 2:5).

She's been trying to tell us; I hope enough of us are listening. I've got a Hail Mary screen saver and it has a chant...I'll keep it going.

Do you mean a new missal or an old one? Each time I find a pre-1969 missal in a used bookstore I buy it. Just reading the beauty and humility of the old Mass is wonderful.

Perhaps you are seeking a good learning source. While their are many, I like "Catholicism and Reason" published by Prow Books. It is very accessible being written for the high school level. It gives good background for our beliefs but doesn't assume that you are a scholar of Latin and Greek.

Does this help?

Don't forget to spread the word about the Rosary. Remember, all the bombs in the world won't help us if we do not pray. Does any Catholic doubt that Fatima is connected to this problem?

Interesting since my Bible has this as an example of how we should pray to the father, an example given by Jesus himself. Where in the Bible does Jesus give an example of how to pray to the Rosary to Mary?

Your problem with praying the rosary is that Jesus didn't give instructions in the bible? Catholics also pray the prayer Jesus taught. We call it the "Our Father" and in fact it is prayed during the recitation of the rosary. I take it then that this is the ONLY prayer that you pray because it is the only prayer taught by Jesus in the bible? That's funny, your denomination must not be one I am familiar with. I have attended the services of many different protestant denominations which all included "unbiblical" prayers by your reckoning. They are usually made up on the spot by Brother or Sister someone who has been called on to pray. Your reasoning is that these are not valid prayers because they were not explicitly taught by Jesus in the bible? Interesting.
