...What bothers me most is...applying the hyphenation, ex:Italian American...Time now to begin putting America(n) first when speaking of ourselves...

Italian-American doesn't seem to used much except in the case of food or in the case of describing dynamics of organized crime. In the case of "Afro-Americans" or "Latino-Americans" it is ALWAYS used by the media in the context of a community, as in cartel or some kind of political bloc.

Your wish that we all be referred to as "Americans" is I'm afraid decades away.

What's funny is that most blacks would like to be called "blacks", especially if you're referring to the skin color and not American blacks per se(the descendants of slaves in the contiguous USA)

OH definitely. It's not a fear of physical assault, more like being labelled as a racist or just being yelled at. I actually feel bad because I'm sure some of them have accidentally brushed by a black person on the subway and been yelled at, unnecessarily. I've seen it happen, maybe they're just fearful of the dressing down in public.

The campus radicals change their approach when a minority comes up to them. I got into a very civil debate with the notorious Jessica Curtin at Michigan about minority retention at the school. No doubt, she held back some of her venom for fear of violating one of leftdoms prime directives.

It's humorous in a way but sad. You actually see a fear in the face of people who sense they may be walking on eggshells and accused of that most heinous liberal crime -- "Bigot!!"

BTW, what was your basic gist in debating about minority retention? If "venom" is being tempered by the left just because you are a "minority" then pull out the big guns -- full phasers and photon torpedos Captain!
