Don't pick on the disabled. He should have an easier time getting a gun than others. It's hard enough making it to the store, the poor man. With the Disabilities Act, there is absolutely no reason why he shouldn't be allowed to own a gun, and to shoot it in a golf course, from a golf cart, of course, right along side with the pros.

Why shouldn't a blind man have the same right to defend himself as everyone else? Or would they rather he walk around with a sign on his back that says, "I'm unarmed. Feel free to mug me."

Let's also keep in mind that each state's health board defines "blind" differently, sometimes in cases where it makes perfect sense for the person to be armed. I had a friend in Jr High who had been declared by AZ's standards to be legally blind, even though he could see fine. His health problem was a wierd varient on wandering eye, his eyes would twitch spasmodically when trying to focus seperately (they'd twitch sometimes when working together, but glasses corrected that), subsequently his vision couldn't be measured, and according to AZ's definition at the time (this was 20 years ago, could have changed) if your vision could not be measured you were blind. He got all kinds of really cool stuff from various charities and agencies (including those big bar magnifiers to help people read, guess even these organizations realized our state's definition of "blind" was pretty dopey) for it. I wouldn't be surprised if people like him all over the country are getting CCW's, I am surprised it took the gun grabbers this long to start making a fuss. Obviously this guy is really blind, but I more than likely some of the other "blind" folks referred to in the article were similar to my childhood friend.

I say good for him. He has just as much right to protect himself as any other person. If he's not a criminal, let him have a gun. Even though he is blind, can hear a burglar breaking into his house. If the theif doesn't identify himself, he should take aim. If the thief persists in staying in the house, shoot him. Just because this guy is blind doesn't mean he's a moronic @ss. Or that he'll shoot up a grocery store filled with his neighbors.

The "target" is not just a "human"; the target is a violent criminal who has assaulted him. He is not out to target anybody, only to be able to defend himself if attacked. What is ironic is that this legally blind man sees better than most gun-control advocates.

Have you ever seen the game "beep ball" where the blind play baseball with a beeping ball. Home in on it with your hearing. So... the next thing that will come of this will be Hillary(!) and Ted Kennedy co-sponsering a bill requiring all criminals to wear little beeping devices on their chests while comitting a crime. If caught in a criminal act while not wearing the beeping device they would be in **big** trouble... young man (this is Clinton logic, you see...).

This is a tough one for me. The question is, can people without the physical facilities to do so be allowed to carry firearms? In this case it's a blind person. How about a retarded person? Or a legally insane person? I don't know the answer, so I'm just asking the question, wondering if any intelligent arguments for both sides of the issue are out there.

I think everyone is missing it here.

I say that it is better to allow (even)one person to have a gun who perhaps shouldn't, than deny that God given right to a hundred. And thats what could happen here, a hundred other deserving people denied the right of self protection based on this case.

The reporter must also be blind or have a good imagination or most likely, be incredibly STUPID! Revolvers don't eject shells when they fire, that would be a pistol, automatic or semi-automatic.

Before they give him the gun they should give him lessons on how to use it with his disability. His hearing may be more acute than ours because of his blindness so they may be able to work with him using that first. Then if he passes a special test he should be able to get his gun - that is his right.
