NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- The cab from a stolen tractor-trailer carrying fertilizer and pesticides was found Thursday, but the hazardous cargo remained at large, police said. Elizabeth Police and the FBI found the cab abandoned on Route 1&9 at Bond Street at 8:54 a.m. It was towed to a State Police forensic laboratory to be tested for evidence.

Well, they found the truck, NOT the trailer. Maybe they will find some evidence in the cab.

Heading toward the tunnels? I was told that the Port Authority is carefully inspecting trailers before they can enter the tunnels. Is this true? How tight is the police presence by the tunnels now?

I would have preferred they find the fertilizer and not the cab.

I do not understand why it would be so difficult to find out what the exact fertilizer was. Trucks are not just loaded up with random cargoes and sent down the road.

I doubt they are loaded radomly, especially chemicals or fertilizers. They have to have some sort of bill of lading, I would think.

I agree. Perhaps they should interview the driver? Naah, wouldnt want to start a panic...

If it's the right type of insecticide, beware of sarin nerve gas!Do you mean to say that the trailer was carrying nerve gas? How interesting.

You can count on them knowing exactly what is in that trailer.

They really need to locate this stuff, and put out a warning about just what it could be used for, worst case.
To: atafak
Something else, why would they even bother to change cabs? Any ideas.

My guess:
a) they have a different cab to use (and may have painted over the truck part)
b) ???

Something else, why would they even bother to change cabs? Any ideas. Maybe they thought there was a transponder? Must have been another reason.
Which brings me to the point that we desperately need a reliable tracking system for all tractor trailers, busses, and trains, managed from a central control point. And we need it yesterday!
And we'd better be watching RV's, too! I suppose in a sense they are but they would be easier to sneak into some places and can hold lots of "cargo".

Well, it's not horse apples...you can get that for free around here.

Cant these trailers also be loaded onto trains and ships??? Maybe they thought the cab had a low-jack. Their ability to scout out these items leads me to believe that there are many more than we think out there and they have been planning things for some time.
To: World'sGoneInsane
So that means that there is another missing cab somewhere.....hmmmmm
