Musharraf Urges End to Afghan Bombing by Ramadan

WASHINGTON - Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf warned Monday that if U.S.-led attacks on Afghanistan extended into the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, they would have a negative effect in the Muslim world.

With the start of Ramadan in mid-November approaching, Musharraf appealed for an end to bombing and other attacks on Afghanistan's Taliban rulers before then.

``It should not have any effect on the campaign as such, but it may have some effects in the Muslim world,'' Musharraf told CNN's ``Larry King Live'' in an interview.

``So one would hope and wish that this campaign comes to an end before the month of Ramadan, and one would hope for restraint during the month of Ramadan because this would certainly have some negative effects in the Muslim world.''

As Ramadan and the Afghan winter near, U.S. and British leaders have stressed the need for speedy action to neutralize the puritanical Islamic Taliban and their ``guest,'' Osama bin Laden, the prime suspect in the Sept. 11 suicide attacks that killed some 5,400 people.

In light of the holy season, perhaps we should focus the attacks where the religious fundamentalists tend to frequent?

Heh. Good one. Remember, the 1973 Arab Israeli War (Called the Yom Kippur War by the winners and the rest of civilization) is the 'Ramadan War' in the Arab World. Their holy month doesn`t stop their martial fervor.

Historically muslims have fought through Ramadan. This is another canard - hope we don't fall for it.

We need to put the wood to Al Queda fast. Wonder if the Al Queda fast during Ramadan? Doubtful. Bin will spin a special fatwa.

No kidding. Can we dispel this myth and complete lie that Muslims take Ramadan off when in war? I will bet that the Taliban still fought in every Ramadan since they have been in power, that the PLO/Hamas, etc. have conducted terror acts during Ramadan, and that Saddam Hussein fought his neighbors during Ramadan.

Dr.Deth urges the renaming of 'Ramadan' to 'Ram It Down' and that our aircraft play Judas Priest at ear-bleeding decibel levels during bombing missions.

As devastating as it sounds, bombing & raiding during Ramadan could ignite the entire Muslim world against the USA in a slow, but effective, global Jihad.

Bring it.

There is no marginal cost to p*ssing off the muslim world.

They already hate us, and are trying to kill us.

They have already been Jihadding us for several years. Nothing new here.

So what? I hope we make a huge offensive during ramadan just to offend them and their hypocritical sensibilities.

Couldn't think of anything better.

I agree No we MUST not stop bombing during Ramadan.

It would constitute lending aid and comfort to our enemy.

We should not worry about "igniting" Muslim hatred as this was done in 732 Ad. We must rather focus on "extinguishing" the hatred that typifies the religion of Islam

If Ramadan is so important to the Muslim world they have a way to stop the bombing. Turn over Osama bin Laden and his top aids. GW would stop the bomb then. It's there choice. Turn over Osama or we will turn over Kabul.

Musharraf Urges End to Afghan Bombing by Ramadan

We urged the Taliban to end bin Laden's visit to their country by a month ago. Didn't happen. A bomb-free Ramadan wouldn't be prudent.
