Re: Declaration of war...

Wouldn't an official declaration of war also require acknowledging the Taliban as being the government of Afghanistan? Also, Bin Laden would not be included in that declaration of war since he is not a "citizen" of Afghanistan. This is the whole problem with the situation, these are people without borders, and without countries to declare war on.

Also, I heard that by not officially declaring war, we avoid some complications of international law. I have no idea what I'm talking about, so someone correct me if that's wrong or if I heard it wrong or misunderstood...

I agree that the immigration problem is one of the biggest. I agree that the students need to be returned, that those violating immigration need to be handled - all of it. Do you really believe that they are not looking at this aspect? I would think that this is one of the reasons we have a Homeland Security now. Yet, these things take time - how do you go in 5 weeks after an attack and totally reorganize our system without studying it, getting information and working out a new system? Do you really think all of this could be done the same minute you are getting attacked, mounting a war, getting info on the hijackers and trying to catch them?

You people expect miracles. We have been in this situation 1-1/2 months. In this month we were attacked, the air traffic shut down, 5,000 people killed, massive activation of the military, massive rescue efforts mounted, immediate protective efforts taken, a military plan formulated, coalitions formed, policy stance developed. Then, we were hit with the anthrax attack, more activation of experts, investigations, testing, analyzing while fighting the war, briefings daily, press attacks.

Give them a break - it will be done but it will be done right not just slamdunk and have to redo it again and explain to the enemy press why it did not work properly the first time.

Yet, continue to expect miracles from the government you apparently think is out to get you. If you think they are so untrustworthy why in the world would you expect a perfect response to two attacks and total reorganization of the U.S. procedures?

We need insiders within our own Federal Agentcys. If the Gov't is going to treat us like enemys, we should be doing the same. Heh, this would be no easy task.

I am ashamed of you two. The very thing wrong with this country right now is that we have enemies in every aspect of this government and the press and you want to add more.

Why don't you just find another country if this one is so bad? An enemy of the government is one that will take steps to destroy the government same as the terrorists, the socialists, the marxists, the peaceniks.

We need Americans we can trust to join with us to fight the enemies. Glad to know which side you are on.

I am not sure because I don't know that much about the rules of war. I'm sure there are plenty here that could tell us. I just heard a snatch of an explanation on why Bush might not want to declare war. I thought it was something about insurance claims - either the insurance companies would not have to payoff on any damages incurred in war or they would. Due to the massive damages, either way has strong repercussions on the economy. Seems there was something about the international part too but can't remember. To declare war brought with it some limitations on our actions. Maybe it was that to declare war, he had to have the approval of the congress. Wish I knew.

"During WWII, did we allow the Germans to immigrate to America? No, and we put those who were here in internment camps."

The only Germans interned in this country during WWII were real prisoners of war.

If you believe that BS I want to sell you some land in Afghanistan cheap. This is a terrible law. It is a law against the American people more than against terrorists. I call it the GESTAPO law. Just imagine the clintons, kennedys, bidens, dashhole and their ilk having this power?
Good God, are you willing to give up your freedom for security? Not me.

Do the 20,000+ gun laws on the books stop shootings? Do the laws against murder stop murders? Does the law against rape stop rapes?
What makes you think another law will stop terrorism?

This is a typical politician response. A "feel good" law so they can say, see, we did something!! As usual, the American people fall for the scam.
I do support the Pres, but, not on this! mark my words, we will live to regret this!!!

A declaration of war would have to recognize that Islam is the enemy and that would be politically incorrect IMO. To those people, we are infidels who either must be converted or destroyed.
