How many jumped from the WTC towers?

Posted on 10/31/2001 3:16:12 PM PST by ErnBatavia

The media has seemed to suppress this (how many poor souls that felt compelled to jump from the burning towers) for whatever reason.

I, for one, would like to be armed with some sort of number who leaped to their certain deaths. I have a feeling, due to the "Vietnamization" taking place now, that this tidbit of data might come in handy.......right about the time some clown gets my '5 across the lips'.

Anybody have an idea as to the numbers involved here? Thanks in advance.

Perhaps the shock of plunging from a 100 story office tower is enough render one unconscious.Does this often happen in New Mexico?

About 8 yrs ago, a guy fell to his death from the 52 nd story of a Toronto office tower, and the coroner determined that the shock of falling made his body limp on impact, consistent with being unconscious.

And remember, they had a month to hand over Oscumma Bin Satan, they refused to do so...and now the consequences!!! They dug their own graves, as far as I'm concerned.

I do not find solace in the notion of doing more of the same unto others who had no real part in it.

Not to fear, there will absolutely be no innocent muslims taking headers out of 110 story buildings!.

I heard that the Chaplain was hit and killed by a jumper on a television news show, so you aren't just imagining you heard this. I thought at the time how horrifying that was.

It would be really hard to find a hard number but I've spoken to several eye witnesses who have said the ground was littered with bodies.

I just spoke to a young woman here in Seattle, who said that her cousin lives in the vicinity of WTC; and he told her that there were body parts laying about on the street and sidewalk where he was walking.

Some of the lists of identified victims have both the victim name and place of work. Many of these are from Cantor-Fitzgerald. I assume that these are the jumpers as they had ID on them, were the first recovered and the bodies were not destroyed. The list is long.

It is easy to get lost in the numbers but we must remember that each of these people died a horrible individual death. Whether by jumping, by fire or by the grinding, crushing collapse of the building. Each incrimental death is horror magnified.

We would be justified in cutting a swath of death and destruction a hundred miles wide and a thousand miles long to get to the people who did this. Anything less is a tribute to our compassion, not an indication of our lack of resolve.

Never mind that most of these guys went to school here and have major investments in the US. (who are the idiots?)

Just after he died, I heard that he had had a heart attack. Then the story was muddled up...anyone know for sure?

Father Mike died of a heart attack while ministering last rites to a firefighter.

Ah, here we go. That's what I heard, too.

One of the news reports mentioned a day care center being in one of the towers.

It has occurred to me that at least the families of those who jumped (and were photographed) know how their loved ones died, and that may be some small consolation. It was very quick--probably a matter of seconds; and then it was over.

More difficult is the processing of the event by those who can only guess how their dear ones died. There were many who were trapped in pockets of rubble, literally buried alive. How much more agonizing to think of a husband, wife, son or daughter dying slowly this way.

I know a priest who was called to the scene to give last rites. He was warned by the firemen, "Father, don't expect to find whole bodies." He went through, as on a battlefield, blessing limbs, skulls, feet, hands. Then he came upon a finger with a wedding band. At that point he broke down completely and had to leave the scene.

Never forget!

The beloved police/fire chaplain that was killed in the towers was hit by a jumper. Has anyone else heard that?

According to an article in the Mens Journal the following is what happened. "Father Judge was standing beneath Tower Two. In the smokey sky, a woman was plumeting from the top floors hurtling to her death. Her long free fall ended when she crashed into an unidentified fireman who was working nearby. Father Judge hastened over to the man. His life was ebbing. When Judge removed his own helmet to perform last rites, he was pelted by a rain of debris." "Later in the day, fireman pulled him from the rubble, his slumped body coated in a fine gray talc. They carried him to Saint Peter's, the oldes Roman Catholic Church in Manhattan, and laid him on th alter. Then they shrouded him in a white sheet and placed his helmet on his chest. Father Judge was the first recorded fatality in the Twin Towers tragedy. Literally, his death certificate was stamped "1". "

Father Mycal Judge was a legend in New York. He was well known for placing himself in situations where he was needed the most; despite the danger. He was a hero in every sense of the word.

people simply DO react more strongly to the images of the jumpers which means, yes, pictures of them CAN help to sustain the public's resolve to see this war through.

All right. That sounds sensible. Thanks.
