November 5, 2001 -- WHOEVER paid attention to the American professors who specialize on the Middle East would have heard some surprising things before Sept. 11.
For one, they dismissed militant Islamic terror as unworthy of their attention. Listen to Fawaz Gerges - a well-known scholar whose credentials include connections to Oxford, Cambridge and Harvard, as well as a professorship at Sarah Lawrence College in New York.

Professors found themselves left, in Kramer's biting words, "to debate one another in growing obscurity." This sounds like an appropriate description for all the Liberal Statist Ministers of Propoganda tenured in our ivory towers, not just the kooks in Middle East Studies.

Daniel Pipes, himself, is one of those who will be listened to in the future.

There actually have been some serious, thoughtful academics working in studies of Islam, mostly in England, who have contributed greatly to an understanding of the rise of Islam, its prophet, and its relations with the West: J Schacht on the Islamic legal system, John Wansborough, Patricia Crone, Ibn Warraq, and a few others, such as Bat Yo'er in France (whose works have been introduced by Jacques Ellul). These academics are not easy reads, but crucial for a reasonable understanding of Islam. They should be read in conjunction with some of the better modern histories of the Byzantine Empire, such as Treadgold's or John Julius Norwich's.

Pipes and Emerson spoke about the Islamic threat to America and the world long before others did. Ahead of the curve and now vindicated.

Great flag
Here we see Fawaz Gerges(world renowed smart guy) walking down the road. My what a lovely pile of sand(says he), I do believe I'll just go and stick my head in it for a while.
What's that line from scripture, something about the blind leading the blind.

American professors who specializeLiberal American professors are about the most useless group of people in the whole US. We need to stop listening to the Ivory Tower types and pay attention to the real world.

For the most part, academicians (one who adheres to the traditional forms and methods of scholarship) are incapable of original ideas. In a setting of "publish or perish", the profs merely regurgitate and expropriate each others' works, now made more easy by "cut and paste".

...99% of the people in all religions are the best kind of people - but you have to learn to survive the 1% that is trying to destroy mankind....Actually the number of destroyers is much higher.
Here's another happy thought from Middle East expert Daniel Pipes:
Islamists constitute a small but significant minority of Muslims, perhaps 10 to 15 per cent of the
population. Many of them are peaceable in appearance, but they all must be considered
potential killers.
How does 600,000 to 900,000 -- in our country -- potential killers sound?

He says we're witnessing a "clash of civilizations." First up, Islam, then, if we get past that, China.
