I wondered whatever happened to him and I thought it was newsworthy.

He was responsible for a dark period in American foreign policy, and his dying does not render him immune from criticism.

I agree strongly on the criticism. But find the spitefulness childish. But I am glad you posted. I might have missed this otherwise.

"NOT."

You may live by your standards. If your friendships are built by your compassion, you are lonely indeed.

"He took the New Deal values of Roosevelt, fighting against poverty and ignorance and injustice and used those values in the Boland Amendment to help the Nicaraguan people," said Rep. Edward J. Markey, D-Mass. ... I remeber writing a short composition on the Boland Amendment and why it was wrong, my liberal college teacher kept me after class to discuss, and she agreed with me!!!

Good riddance dittos!

Boland, who retired in 1988, never lost an election after winning a seat in the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 1935 at age 22.

I hate Massachusettes democrats!

This would be the Boland of the Boland amendments to thwart the Monroe Doctrine and aid International Communism.

I'm thinking of that old line about I'd go [something] on his grave, but I hate lines.

"Good riddance."

What a bunch of hypocritical hateful idiots. I am a conservative Republican and am ashamed to be seen with the likes of you. Great advertising for the compassionate conservative folks. PAH

I normally would not have said such a thing about a dead person, but rep. Boland and quite a lot of DemocRATS of his ilk were trying to criminalize policy diputes betweent the President and the Congress. The DemocRAT leadership in Congress along with their leftist comrades in the press thought it was good sport to try to destroy every Republican presidency since Nixon. After Ronald Reagan left office, even the supposedly low-key Tom Foley was calling for investigations of the "October Surprise" scandal of 1980. According to the allegations, vice-presdential candidate George Bush flew to Europe in the fall of 1980 to talk to representatives of the Iranian government about postponing the release of the American hostages until after the 1980 election. It was claimed that there was one weekend that George Bush's whereabouts were not documented. The accusers even claimed that the CIA arranged for an SR-71 to fly him both ways (the timeline was so tight that ordinary private jets could not have made the trip in the alloted time). A full Congressional investigation found that the allegations were absolutely bogus.

When the biggest dirtball to ever be elected President (Bill Clinton) took office, these same DemocRATS did everything in their power to slow or prevent investigations of his abuses of power. The greatest abuse of power in the entire administration ocurred when Hillary Clinton and her cronies obtained the raw FBI files of over 100 Republicans. For your information, the Watergate burglary happened because J. Edgar Hoover (correctly) refused to investigate President Nixons's political enemies. The DemocRATS were totally hypocritical about FBI files scandal!

I hope is was aware that Daniel Ortega lost the election before he died.

I just realized that Boland died on the same day that Nicaragua declares Bolanos, an anti-Sandinista candidate, the winner of the elections - and Bolanos beat Ortega!

Gosh. Bush's poll numbers are in the stratosphere, Ortega was soundly defeated, and the Red Sox haven't won the World Series since 1918.

This make the third consecutive election that Ortega has lost! Continuing with the baseball analogy isn't it three strikes and you're out?

The democrats were rooting for the communists and thought they had all the bases covered for helping them.

I think the Demon Cats have always supported the communists of the world.

Yesterday Chris Matthews who is on book tour was on a Boston radio talk show, gushing about the "good old days" with Boland and his beloved Tip, where the affairs of state were decided over drinks and cigars with all the other big connected Demos and important lobbyists at some Washington DC restaurant.

For some reason, Matthews apparently thinks this was, and is, the best way to make law; for hack Demo reps and Senators to work out deals so that lobbyists and connected contractors and friends/campaign supporters and relatives can get cushy Government contracts or jobs where they (friends, relatives and contributors)will have to do next to nothing and will get paid more than they ever could if they could find a private sector employer to hire them.

When you hear the reverence Matthews uses describing these GREAT days when he worked for Tip O'Neil, you have to believe he, at heart, always was, and always will be, a big tax and spend lib demo type.
