Chelsea Clinton Feared Bush Tax Cuts as Twin Towers Fell
Newsmax ^ | 11/9/01 | Carl Limbacher

As the World Trade Center imploded just blocks from where she stood, former first daughter Chelsea Clinton's first fears included the prospect that President Bush's economic program would stymie any rebuilding effort.

"I was worried that with the tax cut we wouldn't have enough money to repair New York and D.C. and to help the families of the thousands I knew must have died," writes the former first daughter in an up close and personal account of the Sept. 11 disaster set to appear in the December issue of Talk Magazine.

Clinton claims she was all alone in nearby Union Square and unable to reach her parents by phone as the disaster unfolded before her eyes.

"We all thought we were literally going to have fire rain down on us. That we were the next target," the former first daughter reveals.

"I truly thought I was going to die," Clinton claims she was thinking, just before she began worrying about the impact of the Bush economic program.

The disaster has rallied young Clinton's civic-minded spirit, and she uses her Talk Magazine screed to rally her generation to public service. "We need to step up and serve in any way we can," Chelsea urges.

Her own war effort, however, will apparently be limited to following the footsteps of her father, who dodged the Vietnam draft from the safety of England's Oxford University.

News that the Bush tax cuts were among Ms. Clinton's earliest concerns on 9/11 follows on the heels of a speech by ex-President Clinton Wednesday that seemed to blame the terrorist attacks on American slavery and the mistreatment of the Indians.

With these guys, it's always about them. With the towers on flame close by, her first thought was about what might happen to her, not what was actually happening right then to other Americans.

What trash!

I don't even have a joke here.

Maybe this will help:

Q. What do you get when you cross a crooked politician with a crooked lawyer?

A. Chelsea!

I am sure Bush's tax cut was on everyone's mind as they turned out into the streets, dazed and confused, and trying to make sense of what had just happened in NYC and DC. Ignorant, ignorant, ignorant. Let her keep writing.....no wonder Mom & Dad kept her hidden from the press.

I think "all alone" means she wasn't holding "Daddy's" hand.

"...we wouldn't have enough money...

What the hell is she talking about...who is WE? It is disgusting that she is thinks she is privy to taxpayer money - what a great example of her generation who thinks the world spins for them. She has lived on the dole her entire life and the only tax she has paid was on her Prada purse. This attack has shown that people will donate/provide what is needed that the government just can't.

In the extended version of her remarks, Chelsea lets us know that in those first tragic moments, she was also concerned that:

1. there was insufficient government-funded day care to let the newly-minted widows go to work;
2. President Bush's heartless approach to extending the Family Leave Act would not let family members of the wounded visit their loved ones in the hospital; and
3. W's threat to privatize Social Security would rob survivors of protection in their old age.

On a slightly more serious note, it is so revealing of the liberal mind set that Chelsea assumes that if the government doesn't have money to do something, it won't get done. We conservatives say that the best way to promote the rebuilding of NYC is to take as much money as possible AWAY from government and leave it in the infinitely more productive and efficient private sector!!

I have always felt a lot of sympathy for Chelsea. She really had no control over who her parents were--a woman-hating father, and a shrew mother, both extreme leftists. There are people who can overcome a childhood of far-left indoctrination (i.e. David Horowitz), and I sincerely hope Chelsea has the inner strength to become one of these people.

The process of enlightenment usually takes years, though. No doubt, she'll make a fool of herself again, many times, before it occurs (if it does).

"Are there any psychologists on this site? I would like to know the chances of her actually thinking about tax cuts while being a few blocks from the worst terrorist attack we have ever seen in America."

Yes. Consider what some call the "hypothetical construct" of a destination for liars and cheats and others who are sinful, unrepentant, and stiff-necked; consider that it features a "lake of fire." Now, consider an actual spherical object, formed of H2O in its solid form, somehow finding its way to said destination. The chances of Chelsea thinking about tax cuts at the time of the attack are roughly equivalent to the chances of said snowball's lasting in that environment.

If Chelsea keeps giving opinions, regardless of how warped they are, she becomes a public figure and a legitimet target for the media.

Chelsea is an example (as are her parents) of someone educated beyond their intelligence. She "expounded" on Bush's tax cut as building were falling around her. Expounded is one of those words used by pontificators who are trying to make themselves sound intelligent...especially in the context that she used the word.

Here is a statement from WJBCX42 posted here on 10/05/01 (post #54)

*snip*
Clinton spent some time in Little Rock yesterday. He was 45 minutes late to his own fund-raiser (what's new) and spent 15 minutes shaking hands and posing for pictures. About 300 people paid $100 each for a luncheon of Froglegs and catfish.
He then spent some time at the Statehouse Convention Center boring a crowd of about 800, giving them a half-hearted lecture, stressing that "We're going to be OK. I am grateful for the unity our country has shown behind President Bush and his national security team". (We all believe this?)
He talked about Chelsea's experience in the WTC bombing. "She fled to Grand Central Station and had to run away once again during a bomb scare". "Chelsea said,'Dad, I thought there was a good chance we were all going to die,'"Clinton told the crowd. (Clinton is exceptional at telling stories).

----------------------------------------
any New Yorkers know how far Grand Central is from Union Square????

----------------------------------------
Here' her story on September 26:

Chelsea to Chronicle Harrowing Twin Tower Escape

Chelsea Clinton is set to tell the world about her alleged brush with death in the World Trade Center collapse, and how her last-minute decision to go for coffee instead of a jog around the Twin Towers saved her from a horrible fate.

That and the six Secret Service agents still assigned to protect her.

While it's unclear whether her bodyguards will rate a mention in the piece she's been invited to pen for the November issue of Talk magazine, you can bet her screed will be a real page-turner.

We won't be a bit surprised to learn, for instance, that Chels and her dad spent many a White House night playing Scrabble into the wee hours while plotting to get Osama bin Laden.

The New York Observer, which first reported the news of young Clinton's journalistic debut, said she was so moved by the episode that she's stopped giving interviews. (We hadn't noticed she'd started.)

In fact, it was her senator mom who first piqued interest in her daughter's Twin Tower adventure when she told NBC's Jane Pauley, "Chelsea was going to go [jogging] around the towers. She went to get a cup of coffee and that's when the plane hit."

Mrs. Clinton next claimed she wasn't able to reach her child for two whole hours after the attack, and was afraid to tell her husband - who was busy scooping up six-figure speaking fees in Australia at the time.

With all three tethered to a small army of Secret Service agents, it's hard to imagine such a total communciations breakdown. But the Clintons have never been sticklers for inconvenient details.

Talk initiated the idea of Chelsea telling her Twin Tower tale, the Observer said, noting the magazine's long history of support for the Clintons.

--------------------------
Which version is correct? The daughter is not as clever as the mom. Hitlery must teach her the fine are of keeping your lies straight.

Did she by chance mention the tremendous giving spirit of the American Public and the diversion of funds away from the victims of this tragedy?

I haven't read the entire article, only the blurbs on FR. I can't stomach the panting over her obvious skill of bubba speak. (not by freepers, of course, just the mindless masses) I wonder if she bites her lower lip.
