A lot of people, including race-baiting candidate Gore, don't realize this was a concession to the non-slave states by the slave states, as it led to fewer congressional reps from the slave states.

That is just about exactly what Ann said. With a little more extraneous detail. And the professor who had posed the question (I assume he was a professor since so many seemed to know him and braced for the question) appeared to sink a little lower in his seat when she completed her response. Hehe

I was at a book signing tonight by Peggy Noonan with tgslTakoma. When I told her that we were FReepers who were at 'Cheney's House' last year, she excitedly jumped out of her chair and said, "FReepers !"

She told us we had done a great thing there and how she loved that we kept coming up with new bits during that time.
