One student asked what advice President Bush would give to them.............his last word of advice............"Trust the Lord."That was my favorite part of the whole interview! For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

I remarked to my father on the phone that I thought the kids of Crawford asked better questions than the press. Glad you saw that too.

I bet a lot of folks here, particularly the older folks, never dreamt that an American President would be bringing the Russian President to Crawford, Texas. (Laughter.) A lot of people never really dreamt that an American President and a Russian President could have established the friendship that we have. Well, we're not *that* old (well some of us aren't, huh Miss M?..heh heh), but I do remember a time when we feared Russia. A time when Russia caused Americans to attend civil defense training and have fallout shelters.
Pretty remarkable the relationship and chemistry between these two, isn't it?

Thanks for this post. It was a great time for the two presidents at the high school!

Thanks for the transcript and, instead of O'Reilly, I watched the repeat on C-SPAN at 5:00 PM Pacific and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Now, wouldn't you know it, after reading a vanity here about O'Reilly slamming Geraldo on his show tonight, I will have to catch O'Reilly's repeat at 8:00 PM! It's time-consuming to be an "informed" news junkey.

......A time when Russia caused Americans to attend civil defense training and have fallout shelters. .......
I was thinking about that earlier today.... I remember about 1960 going to CD classes once a week at night. I wonder today why we thought those fallout shelters or home bomb shelters would really have worked. I guess we needed to think in terms of survival, but anyone within close proximity to a strike was ..... well forget the need for a shelter.

Here's how old I am, Irma. My son was born in an Army hospital in West Berlin. Taking the train through East Germany, we often had Soviet soldiers who inspected the train and tried to trade belt buckles and pins for cigarettes and Playboy Magazine. Our unit was on high alert in 1968, the year that Czechoslovakia was taken over by the Soviets and Alexander Dubcek was thrown in jail.
Earlier, when I was in middle school, we were terrified that we would be vaporized in an atomic bomb blast during the Cuban Missile Crisis. We had bomb shelters in our school, and regular drills. Pretty scarey when you are 13 years old.
For all of my youth and most of my adult life, the Russians were considered the enemy. And now they are turning out to be pretty good friends. All I can say is that God is indeed moving in the affairs of men, and we would be foolish not to thank Him.

Heard this live during Rush's show, and it is also a marvelous read.
In the '60s, there was a commonly accepted story that Nikita Khruschchev sized JFK up as a weakling during Jack's and Jackie's initial European tour, and that emboldened him to put missiles into Cuba. And that led to what I remember vividly as a very tense time.
I think that Bush and Putin genuinely like each other, and trust that there will be no similar misreading between them.
Thanks for posting this, Miss Marple, and thanks for the flag, deport.

Great!
A Transcript!
Our local TV stations (in this part of Tejas) decided *not* to carry this live - but I was able to catch channel 10 out of the Waco/Central Texas area and caught few glimses of video of the interview as well listened to it courtesy of WBAP and Mark Davis!
(All the local TV stations continued to carry their normal mindless daytime programming line-up ... consisting of mainly 'soaps' ...)

Thanks for posting this, I missed it today and it is well worth reading. President Putin has a sense of humor! Who knew?
I just love the president's sarcastic little remarks about the medus!

On Tuesday President Bush and President Putin really needled the press at their Washington press conference. Rumsfeld also blasted some reporters pretty good.
I think we may be seeing another front in the War on Terror...they are going after the media! Ha!
Seriously, it would do those reporters some good if they would learn courtesy and humility! (Objective reporting would also help, but I don't think they are capable of that.)

I guess we needed to think in terms of survival, but anyone within close proximity to a strike was ..... well forget the need for a shelter.I remember my mom going to CD classes. I also remember that our tiny bathroom was stocked with can goods and was supposed to serve as our fallout shelter....just in case. Lawd, it would have done no good for me because my two brothers and I would have killed each other after only 2 hours locked up in that tiny bathroom! LOL
Miss M....I think we're the same age. ;-)

If anyone gets the chance, this is well worth watching on C-SPAN, if they show it. Thanks for the reminder. I'm watching right now, on C-SPAN. Thanks, Miss Marple.

And it gives me great pleasure to deal and to work with President Bush, who is a person, a man who does what he says. (Applause.) That about says it all. President Bush is a man not only we can trust but the Russians as well. By the end of the Bush Administration, I would not be surprised to see the USA and Russia as very strong allies in the same way as the USA and Great Britain. Great Britain used to be our enemy too, by the way.
Thanks for posting. This will prove to be a historical summit.
