Well, their analysis is pretty much what I would have said. He would if he could. But he probably can't. Hopefully he struck too soon, before he managed to buy nuclear weapons and preposition them.

Nevertheless it's enough of a threat to explain why Bush has determined to wipe him out, and the horse he rode in on.

The blind illiterate lunatic poses no direct threat from whatever cave he's cowering in, but don't forget that there may still be sleepers in North America and abroad. That isn't an excuse to get paranoid, but it should remind us to remain alert. The part that gives me the most pause is the fact that when these vermin have issued threats in the past they often haven't been idle. Let's hope that this statement is simply the ravings of a cornered madman. Still, stand on guard, eh.

Here's the full exchange from the interview -- it's a lot less scary than the "summaries" that some news organizations have used to mischaracterize it in a cheap attempt to sell newspapers via fearmongering:

BBC: What do you think of the current situation in Afghanistan?

Omar: You (the BBC) and American puppet radios have created concern. But the current situation in Afghanistan is related to a bigger cause - that is the destruction of America...

BBC: What do you mean by the destruction of America? Do you have a concrete plan to implement this?

Omar: The plan is going ahead and, God willing, it is being implemented. But it is a huge task, which is beyond the will and comprehension of human beings. If God's help is with us, this will happen within a short period of time; keep in mind this prediction.

BBC: Osama Bin Laden has reportedly threatened that he would use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against America. Is your threat related to his?

Omar: This is not a matter of weapons. We are hopeful for God's help. The real matter is the extinction of America. And, God willing, it (America) will fall to the ground.

Sounds to me like their "big plan" is to pray like hell for Allah to come down and smite us for the Taliban.

Then again, no need to fear. If we stop them, we stop them, and if we don't, then we'll just have one more reason to finish the job right.

Oh, Omar means it all right, Of course, there is a distinct possiblilty he may be totally delusional, but Hitler was supposed to have ordered Goering to launch an all-out air strike on New York City in the waning days of WW II. Not successfully, of course, as Germany was out of practically everything at the time. As the Taliban is out of practically everything. But al-Qaeda is not. They have resources and personnel in strategic places right now all over the United States, put in place over the past decade, while America slept. Or while officials in charge even consciously averted their eyes. Naming of names should not be necessary, but the initials start with the "Former Occupant of the Oval Office, 1993-2001".
