Franklin Graham Calls Islam Evil Religion
NBC Nightly News ^ | 11/16/01 | NBC News

Posted on 11/16/2001 3:57:31 PM PST by Zorobabel

NBC did a short film piece tonight showing Graham stating that Islam called for killing of Christians and Jews and was evil. Brokaw stated that Graham apparently "stands alone," in this and that Falwell and other prominent clergy are silent about the matter. The usual Moslem tizzy, yada yada.

I didn't see it; I never watch NBC and Brokaw makes me puke, but I'd like to read Graham's statement.

No, I haven't, but I have heard him speak in the same vein about the Islamic government of the Sudan which deserves to be reviled and removed.

NBC?

That would be the 'Nightly Brokaw Crap!!!'

Franklin Graham does not 'stand alone' against the Islamics that call for the killing of Christians and Jews.(Which, by the way, is probably a very small minority of the Islamics)

Maybe you used to be a newsman, Tom; but, your show is now opinionated 'spew', not news, IMHO.

From the Charlotte (NC) NBC affiliate station web site:

Son of America's Famous Evangelist Lashes Out at Islam

Charlotte, N.C. -- Franklin Graham, the son of the Reverend Billy Graham, says the war on terrorism should not be limited to the battlefield. He says it needs to expand to include a war on Islam, the religion.

Graham's comments are causing quite a stir, especially among American Muslims on the first day of Ramadan.

"We're not attacking Islam but Islam has attacked us," Graham said. “The God of Islam is not the same God. He's not the Son of God of the Christian or Judeo-Christian faith. It's a different God and I believe it is a very evil and wicked religion.”

Graham says his beliefs are based on what he has read in the Gur'an, the Islamic holy book, and suggests that America's war on terrorism is also a war on Islam.

"I think we better take a hard look, though, at Islam. I don't believe this is this wonderful, peaceful religion."

Islamic leaders call Graham's comments deplorable and scary.

"If he is giving out more and more hate, than you can imagine where it going to lead us,” said Dr. Sayyid Mohammad Syeed, Islamic Society of North America. “This is demonization and perpetuating that hate and that's what makes me really fearful of this kind of statement"

Graham's views run contrary to what President Bush has been saying.

"When we think of Islam, we think of a faith that brings comfort to a billion people around the world," Bush said on Sept. 17.

Graham’s comments even run contrary to the message of tolerance his father has preached for decades.

"God cares for us whatever our ethnic, religious or political background may be," Rev. Billy Graham said on Sept. 14.

The comments from Franklin Graham now coming to light were made after he attended a ceremony for his father last month during an interview with the Bowers Media Group.

A new 200-seat chapel in Wilkes County was dedicated in honor of Rev. Graham and his wife Ruth.

That guys got big Cojones! I hope this comment will lead to an honest discussion. Although I personally would NOT call ISLAM itself "evil", I have seen enough evidence that could convince me (Thanks to many freepers posts).

I'd like to hear a defense of Islam, by Islamists and non-islamists as well. Let put the cards on the table and show our hands.. lets settle it once and for all (yeah right)...

Three months ago, there would have been an absolute firestorm over this. In fact, even a month and a half ago I think this could have caused major damage to his career. But I think most Americans have finally figured out that most Muslims will support anyone that wears the right "Islamic" clothing and claims to be a Muslim, no matter how evil their deeds. And most Americans are not willing to accept that.

If Graham did make this statement, which I believe he did, he would only be stating what has been obvious and "crystalk clear" for 1379 years now. The killing of Christians and Jews is an integral part of Islam, and has always been. When Muhammad first succeeded in raiding and looting a camel caravan, he celebrated by killing all of the 600 Jewish men in Medina.

While it is true that sometimes submissive, slavish Christians have been tolerated subject to payment of discriminatory taxes and occasional pogroms in their "dhimmi" (3d class citizen) status UNDER MUSLIM RULE, Muslims are plainly directed to war--jihad--to the death against any pretense, anywhere in the world, of non-Muslims to rule or form a government, and that becomes a primary COMMAND if there are any Muslims at all living under said non-Muslim regime.

Thus the United States a century ago was not a particular enemy of Islam, there was no positive command to fight jihad against it till it falls. But the minute one Muslim became subject to the US...and especially if there were even one modest-sized Muslim community subject to it...the US has no fate or destiny but "war to the death, war to the knife, to the teeth, and to the finger nails"...until it either falls, or has no Muslims subject to it, or until the last Muslim on earth is dead.

Those who do not believe what I am saying, are just deficient in information!

Graham said he was also bringing the pledge that American Christians would help the southerners fight back. "This country has declared a Jihad (Islamic holy war) on its own people," he said. "It's wrong. It's wicked. And it's evil.

For me as an outsider, the freedom of worship seems the main issue. Instead of being converted to Islam, these people have decided to fight. It is David against Goliath." Ramadan Yasin, a relief worker in Southern Blue Nile Province, fears aggressive evangelism such as this and says that it will cause problems. "Our area was in harmony, now people are hating Islam. We don't want people to disturb the peace," he told the Financial Times.

A friend of the Bush family, Graham has been described as a business-minded self-publicist and was among the evangelists who attended a key meeting with State Department officials in March, which discussed Sudan. Together with David Saperstein of the Reform Judaism Social Action Centre and prison evangelist Chuck Colson, he has assembled a powerful lobby to amplify the religious angle of the war. Samaritan's Purse, a charity that Graham is involved in, runs a hospital in Lui, an area controlled by the SPLA. With the cameras trailing behind, Graham made a swift tour of the hospital, rarely talking to the semi-naked Sudanese women or wounded men.

At the end of his tour, Graham stood in front of the camera and said: "As soon as I get back (home) I'm going to share what I've seen here. Khartoum should be hit with the full force of American military strikes. Why not? These people are just as evil as Saddam Hussein."

A Christian believes that Islam is evil? Next followers of Jesus will start believing that He is the Christ, an nobody comes to the Father, except through Him. The horror of it. What is this world coming to?

Wow. I'm impressed with this statement. We desperately need our Christian leaders to be strong on this issue...

There's no problem for Christians with the God of the Jews. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is the same God as the God of the New Testament. Christians believe that the Jews failed to recognize the Messiah about Whom their own prophets spoke, but Christians cannot argue that the God worshipped by the Jews is different from their God.

Moreover, the Hebrew Bible explicitly says in many places that God's Covenant is "forever," and Paul echoes that promise in one of his epistles. It's a mystery why some of the Jews still deny that Jesus is the Messiah, but it's not a mystery we can properly quarrel with.

Unfortunately, the God of Islam is another matter. While the New Testament builds upon and fulfills the Old Testament, the Koran falsely echoes the Bible, disagrees with it on fundamental points, borrows bits and pieces, and simply cannot be reconciled with it. The only conclusion a Christian can come to is that it is a false religion.

That's not to say that we shouldn't respect decent Muslims as we might respect Hindus or Buddhists. But it's not entirely clear if the reverse is true: that Muslims are prepared to allow people of other religions to live with them. After 1,500 years of conquest, forced conversion, and persecution, the Muslim record is not a happy one.

Whoever wrote this article doesn't pay much attention to detail. Franklin did not say that God doesn't care for people who are of the Islamic religion. He said that Islam, the religion, is evil. God cares for every human being, and I'm sure that Franklin would agree with that.
