I'll be putting up my brother-in-law's book about life here in North Florida - it is GREAT! hint,hint...
I have a real interesting book about Claude Kirk. It is his bio. This is something of interest to Floridians since Kirk was the first Republican since Reconstruction to become governor of Florida. However, Kirk was EXTREMELY eccentric as well. His downfall came when he endorsed Nelson Rockefeller for president in 1968, thinking it would advance him politically. Ironically, it had the exact opposite effect and he alienated himself from most of the rest of Florida Republicans. The interesting thing is that if Kirk had endorsed Nixon, he probably would have been chosen as his vice-presidential running mate (Nixon was looking for a Southerner on the ticket) instead of Agnew. When Nixon resigned in 1974, Claude Kirk would have then been sworn in as president. Think about that.
Although Kirk irritated a lot of people, with the passage of time his eccentric antics can now be viewed with a lot of humor. I have the Kirk bio listed on Half.com but if someone is interested in this book, I can take it off for private sale.
