Efforts to raise money to build a national Martin Luther King Jr. memorial on the Mall have stalled because the memorial foundation so far has been unable to get permission from the King family to use the slain civil rights leader's image and words in the fundraising campaign.
The King family wants to receive a fee as part of such an agreement, said Harry Johnson, president of the King National Memorial Project Foundation Inc.

Do we really need this? Shouldn't we wait another 100 years or so to see if MLK is really relevant to much of anything? It's not like he started one of the worlds greatest countries or anything or wrote a Constitution or Declaration of Independance.
Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Good. MLK doesn't deserve to have a memorial near the Wall, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, etc.
Among these giants of our nation's history, MLK is a flea.

(Sorry, I don't have the html codes with me)
The article relates how a King family member is on record as saying the the King legacy "is not in the public domain".
It's good read for a chuckle.

It's hard to find much information on the subject, apparently because it's been eliminated from historical reports to serve the gods of political correctness. However, it's well known that Martin Luther King, Jr. was often guilty of plagarism. So maybe if one buys his words, one is buying the words of another?

Surprised that the King family of whores aren't mass marketing MLK like Malcom X was a few years back. This would be a bad memorial IMHO. Look what happens to neighborhoods when they just name a street after him!

Wasn't it Ken Hamblin who said that if a black man on vacation needs a hair cut his best best is to find Martin Luther King Jr Blvd so the barber will know what he is doing?

Thank God for the stall!!! MLK has been memorialized ad nauseum. I for one would like to see him substantially de-memorialized.

I live near downtown Atlanta and drive by the King Center all the time. As far as I can tell, the King Center doesn't do anything but put on the MLK Birthday celebration every January. The King family are Takers never Givers and they're trying to make as much money off the image and speeches of MLK as they can. Coretta is a professional widow and my taxes are paying for 24 hour police protection for her.
I've heard there is a negative article about MLK's sons in this month's GQ, but I haven't seen it.
