Your mail arrived yesterday.
Thank you for the additional contributions.
I'm pinging you on this thread because it was the most active and I am hoping someone who gets some feedback on the packages and letters and cards we sent will be kind enough to let the rest of us know.

My contact at DOD sent the following in response to my request for information of whether the scarves were received.
********************************************
Good Afternoon Dr. Pitkin,
The scarves were received and most appreciated.
*************************************************
And that's all folks, until maybe one of the soldiers writes us when they are allowed to communicate.
The Guild got a great thank you letter for the goodies they sent. I feel very jealous.
However these soldiers are out in the field, and don't have access to all the amenities that the sailors on the USS Roosevelt have. So anyone who receives any word, please let me know.

Patty, I think you sould make a whole new thread with this! This is wonderful news! Hey, they GOT the scarves and they were much appreciated. . .what more could you ask?
Then again, I'm a cut and dry kinda gal. ;-) Besides, your two Kosovo threads are getting kinda long...we need a new thread.

Hi patriciaruth,
I think the response we get has A LOT to do with where the troops are, what their facilities are like, and how much they're "roughing it." Maybe the short email we got was as much as they could do, like starting a fire with two stones and some twigs.

Hi Patty,
Thanks for letting me know they got the scarves... I was worried.
There must be some good reason for the slight response... It just doesn't make sense that so many would simply be forgetful.
Many thanks.

Please don't be discouraged by the terse reply. It was probably an "official" version. I was just thinking about this subject the other day. I fear that when my friends and I were on active duty, we did not show our appreciation for the thoughtful things done for us as much as we should have[hanging head in shame]. I find now, however, that these acts of kindness are among my favorite memories. We must forgive the very young and invincible :) Besides, what you did made me feel great. Does helping out a veteran count?
Blessings in the new year, Calico

Thank you for the update. I'm so glad the scarves were received.

Have you heard anything more about the scarves? Our mutual chaplain said he knew about them and wondered what happened with them. I told him if he heard anything, to let you and I know.
