Objective: Democracy (Adm. Woolsey's Case To Move Against Sadam & Iraq Now)
Washington Post ^ | November 27, 2001 | R. James Woolsey

Of the Mideast's predator governments -- Iraq, Iran, Syria and Sudan -- Iraq presents the most urgent problem. Its work on weapons of mass destruction, untrammeled now for three years by U.N. inspections, creates a serious risk for its neighbors and for us. We have plenty of evidence of Iraq's support of terrorists, such as its training of other Arabs at Salman Pak in how to hijack aircraft with knives. We know of many meetings between Iraqi intelligence and various terrorists. And we know for a fact that Saddam tried to assassinate former president George H. W. Bush in the spring of 1993.

Numbers 24:24 says that ships will "afflict" Iraq (Asshur) until it is destroyed. Airplanes from aircraft carriers and cruise missiles from destroyers and planes can in today's modern times now "afflict" Iraq until it is destroyed.

Attacking and disintegrating Iraq is a decision of major proportions, with major consequences. Whatever the decision of the Bush administration, I hope it is the right one. What is the right decision? I don't know. I hope the administration knows with a reasonably high degree of confidence. If the decision is close, I would advise caution. But then I tend to be cautious.

how can we not go to iraq? as we chase binny around afghanistan, saddam is breeding more terrorists, more weapons of mass destruction. this IS a war on terrorism, not a country, but on terrorism, and we cannot just get one, we have to get all of them, or we've wasted our time in afghanistan already.

...During -The Week That Was- Sept 11th...

...JAMES WOOLSEY stated on the FoX News Channel that there should be an investigation into...

...WHY the 1960's -Friends of Terrorists- CLINTONS killed our FBI's Investigation into the SADDAM HUSSEIN Link to the 1993 World Trade Center Bommbing thus giving incentive for another Terrorist Strike on it like we have seen in 2001...

...and...

...WHY the 1960's -Friends of Terrorists- CLINTONS killed our CIA's Policy, starting in 1995, of recruiting/hiring the very Spies we needed to find out what the World's Terrorists had planned for US so we could stop them ahead of time.

...The CLINTONS have been the Friends of Terrorists/Communists groups and states ever since the Turbulent 1960's ...more so when in our Oval Office.

I note that the excerpts from Woolsey that you quote call Iran a "predator." His article later contains this more specific statement about Iran:

While we are so engaged, we can hope that the recent demonstrations in Iran against the mullahs multiply. If the mullahs want to help provide intelligence and other support against Saddam, fine. We can be cordial -- we can't fight everyone at once. But we should pay them no respect of the kind that would lose us the growing admiration among the youth and the women of Iran, almost universally hostile to the mullahs' rule.

I disagree with at least Woolsey's emphasis. Iran should have been listed as a semi-democracy in the Middle East. It seems to be at least as much of a democracy as Turkey. Yes, we want to encourage the development of democracy there, and to weaken the mullahs. But giving Iran a big role in the invasion and administration of Iraq could well be the best way to do those things, if we play our cards right. And Iran is inevitably going to be interested in the fate of Iraq, with which it shares so much of its history, and which has so many Shiites. That means Iranians may be offended and resentful, if we freeze them out of the Iraqi solution, but it also means that we have an opportunity to win their good will.

It's simple.

saddam broke the rules of surrender after Kuwait. He threw out the UN weapons inspectors.

Billy clinton hid on the sidelines and hoped no one would notice that he did not insist that the inspectors stay. You know ol Bill 'I'd like to teach the world to sing....' and hillary and their hatred for all things military.

Now a stituation has arisen that reminds us to get the WEAPONS INSPECTORS into IRAQ not NOW but YESTERDAY.

Hear that Saddam. We are going to HOLD you to your original SIGNED argeement. You see, YOU LOST the MOTHER OF ALL WARS and reneged on the agreement following the war. You were LUCKY we did not seek you out and blow you up to Allah.

So big guy, either you LET the inspectors in, REAL INSPECTORS under the UN agreement, or we will PUT THEM 'IN' FOR YOU!

This seems quite sufficient for putting Saddam's regime next in the cross-hairs

I agree, we must punish Saddam for his role in terrorist attacks against the U.S. When we do, he will do everything in his power to attack Israel. If he does, events could develope dramatically. In fact, this maybe the scenario he invisioned from the start of the plan for 9-11.

Ex-UN Inspector Scott Ritter was paid $400,000 by an Iraqi to lobby for Iraq

On a side note, when you hear Scott Ritter on FOX News daily defending Iraq, keep mind he is a paid lobbyist for Saddam, visited Iraq last year in violation of U.S. law, and in my opinion has questionable loyalties.

I agree the US needs to take Iran into account before anything is done new and major about Iraq. As you know the two countries do not trust each other and do not get along. The US should at least approach the Iranian democratic factions (all factions if they will talk) and ask for their support in the effort against Iraq.

The one isuse that could turn the Iranians against an Iraqi assalt by the US is if Israel either became too involved in the effort or if Iran perceived that the Israeli position in the ME would be helped too much by the US actions. I am a supporter of keeping Israel strong in the ME but I do believe the Iranians are ultra sensitive to Israel and that will be a factor in any new effort against Iraqi by the US.

Thanks for the info about Woolsey and Dornan.

Can we get a transript to post on FR of what is discussed on Dornan's program about Iraq and Woolsey? Does Dornan's radio program have an internet audio feed link someone can post on FR to listen to the program or even back programs? Alex Jones in Austin does this and you can hear previous programs he has done with David Schippers and the 9/11 attacks.
