Oh horse feathers! Jim is obviously 'donating' a huge portion of his life while you and I and 99% of FReepers don't even come close to that. It's not fair. This site isn't JUST about some 'Cause'. Most of us are just having fun most of the timne. It's entertainment and you know it. YOU are one of the most serrious and one of the most effective activists here but don't think that's why most of the others are here. No matter what BS they tell themselves. It's up to JR how much of his blood sweat and tears he is willing to donate to the cause but WE have no right to expect everything from him. Personally I think he should be paying himself at least 150k a year to run FR.
It's not that I think he's got to hold to some higher standard based solely on the founding principles of this place and doesn't
deserve to make a profit, I just don't think it a crime he doesn't. Strangely fitting, actually.
(And I'll admit I can't help thinking of him as the richest man in town. Working from home as member of some hugely successful Father & Son team to boot.)
What he should do is split the forum so he can load with ads or charge a "cover" for threads like Bikini-clad Babe Sick of shaking it with Santa ... wants a Nice Boy from Free Republic and make money off the FReeper rec room and bar where there would be no copyright issues associated with the posting of vanities and such that run over 700 posts.
