Is there anyway to develop a monthly pledge system whereby we all make monthly commitments to xxx dollars and send that in or have it placed on automatic withdraw?

Thank you Jim!

I think so. There might be a link to something like that on the home page.

Yes. Select "Donate by secure credit card" on the FR HomePage, and choose "monthly" as your gifting selection. I have used this arrangement for... more than a year now, at least... and have never had a single problem with the monthly credit card debiting-arrangement.

If you can commit even $10 a month to FreeRepublic, this will cover $120 per year of Jim's Costs.

Of course, if you feel that FReeRepublic is worth more than $10 a month to you... feel free to give more.

Best,
The Orthodox Presbyterian

I agree that the way to clear out the parasites is to charge a small monthly fee, and if Jim Rob wants to give a bunch of poor FReepers a personal pass, that is his business.
But the problem is that it would create its own billing nightmare of financial problems. Maybe we could learn how Blockbuster does it. They take multiple small payments and still make a profit.

BUT, MOSTLY, Jim, I THINK YOU ARE JUST TIRED AND NEED A VACATION.

HMMMMMMM....maybe THE SOLUTION is to shut FR down a couple days a week and a couple weeks a year. TAKE DAYS OFF, Jim! And then people would wake up to how much they love and need this site, and the contribution problem would be solved.

Jim Robinson said: "My projections are that our regular monthly expenses for next year will be running in the neighborhood of $22,000 per month, or approximately $264,000 total for the year. This means we will need to raise approximately $66,000 per quarter."

I bank online and have it set to send $5.00 per month. Being a senior, that's all I can afford. But the way I figure it, if EVERYBODY just sent $5.00 per month, Jim Robinson would have no problems worrying about getting enough money to keep this site running.

Think about it ... if just 10,000 sent that little bit, it would add up to $50,000 a month! Not only would that cover the expenses, but would cover a decent salary for each of the Robinsons (perfectly legit for a non-profit to have salaried employees).

For the life of me, I can't figure out why people can't do that. Most of them have a whole lot more money than I do!

I would like to see an easy way to support web sites. Someone needs to come up with a simple website that you could enter urls of sites an individual wants to support and the amount and have it taken care of by credit card or whatever.

Then you could visit your personal page and make one donation to be split however you want. FreeRepublic would be at the top of my list.
