Wishful thinking on the part of the Taliban groupies, IMHO - we'll have to be ready to lose some people, but I don't think we have lost 124 of them yet. What possible need would there be for secrecy? Eveyone in the world knows we have troops on the ground, and in Iraq, in similarly restrictive security conditions, we were told right away when we lost people.

Because Americans don't like wars with American casualties. I have no doubt that support for the war on terrorists will plummet as soon as mass casualties begin. No doubt that our politicians are well aware of that too.
