Oz and NewZealand, I believe, would be tough to immigrate in, after you retire. They prefer people who are willing to work and pay taxes into their welfare system.

You want low costs then consider the Tri city area of Johnson City, Tennessee. Mild winters.

Cold harsh winters make it tough for people to live in. keeps them wimpy liberals away :) Montana, Wyoming and Idaho are solid Bush country and remain like that for a long time. Especially with their gun laws, you should consider them.

NW Arkansas is a great spot, particularly Mountain Home, Flippin, etc.. Heber Springs would be nice as well, though a little further South.
Texas hill country is mighty hard to beat as well and no state income tax, warmer winters, no snow.

I wouldnt be too quick to exclude Washington state. No state income tax, and pretty decent cost of living on the eastern side. Hot summers, usually mild winters, and good people for the most part. Good hunting and fishing all over the state too...JFK

I lived in Northwest Arkansas for a year and really did not enjoy my stay. To me, people only SEEMED friendly. They would pry until they found out "something " on you, such as that my teen daughter had dated a Hispanic boy where we lived before, and then they shunned her. As a woman, I was terribly patronized, and things like that normally roll off my back.

I've never lived anywhere more white, too. Even the sign on the mile of highway between Arkansas and Missouri proudly announced that trash cleanup was courtesy of the KKK.

Nobody ever left, and couldn't imagine why anyone would want to. I couldn't wait. When I pulled into Springfield in my gigantic UHaul to get some gas, a man came over and gave the truck a long look, then in all seriousness asked my how it handled. And he didn't call me "Li'l Lady" and pat me on the head! I almost cried with relief!

I live in Utah now and love it, but it's an expensive area and crowded.

We are considering GA after a lifetime in CA for my husband and 46 years for me. Our daughter is moving there next week and we hope to follow a year from now. We are semi-retired now and talking to friends about Acworth and Duluth but will check out Augusta. Looking at real estate mags and the housing prices in GA sure make a lot more sense than CA. CA in a few more years will be populated only by newcomers. Everyone else will be leaving when they discover they are working to support the illegals; thanks to the federal government and the left legislature in Sacramento. Too many people with their hands out in this state. Time to move on and enjoy the few years we have remaining.

New Mexico went for the demoRATS and is probably basically a demoRAT state due to the very large hispanic population. Generally, the white people are very conservative but there is a significat environmental wacko element.
Still, not a great choice, IMO.
See my post above. Very solid white conservative majoritys in both NW Arkansas and the hill country. This part of Texas has been generally spared the influx of carpetbaggers that are polluting the urban parts of the state with their imported liberal drivel.
Texas, during the years I lived there was a wonderful place where you could legally ride around in your pickup with a loaded rifle in the rack drinking beer and looking at all the lovely and frequently willing East Texas beautys. Obviously, things have not changed for the better over most of the state

I've never lived anywhere more white, too. Even the sign on the mile of highway between Arkansas and Missouri proudly announced that trash cleanup was courtesy of the KKK.

Where do you get the idea "proudly"? The State went to court to get it stopped but, of course, are required by the 1st Amendment not to discriminate because of someone's political speech. The highway adoption status was revoked a couple of years ago because the man who applied for the permit couldn't actually get enough people together to clean the highway on schedule and people selected that mile to throw out their household garbage and the signs kept getting shot up.

Nobody ever left, and couldn't imagine why anyone would want to. I couldn't wait. When I pulled into Springfield in my gigantic UHaul to get some gas, a man came over and gave the truck a long look, then in all seriousness asked my how it handled. I just asked my wife if she had ever had anyone call her "Li'l Lady" or otherwise treat her in this manner in Arkansas. The answer was no and she has lived here 32 years. The Arkansas women I know would slap the crap out of someone who said that to them.

There are plenty of reasons to criticize this State believe me, but these don't seem at all familiar to me. The KKK one in particular is a mischaracterization of that situation.

"Check out Grand Lake, Colorado"

I second this motion........... perfect place.  Beautiful lakes for summer, snow mobile from you front door in winter.  Lots and Lots of sunshine...  The weather reminds me of FL.  When it storms it usually just rolls through and then the sun comes back out....

During Christmas when I was there we were sitting on the deck watching the kids play in the snow in front of a outdoor firepit.  We were in fleece jackets only, as the sun was out and it's warm in the sun.

You are also close enough to AZ NM UT to enjoy the spice of the desert area... Lots to see all over the place to keep you busy forever.......

But it's Clinton country and he might decide to return.....

Very unlikely since he has sucked everything he needs out of the marrow of this State and its not metropolitan enough for him. But the slim possibility does exist.

The funny thing was that they were going to rename Markham Avenue to President William Jefferson Clinton Avenue in Little Rock and so many people came out to protest that the city council backed down and ended up only renaming the little section next to his lieberry. LOL

Check out Charlotte County Florida - rated by Money Magazine as the best place to live - 4 years in a row.

Low crime, no income taxes, homestead exemption, affordable real estate, conservative population.

It's on the west coast between Sarasota and Naples.

You can still buy a salt water front home (park your boat at your dock) for under $200,000. Boat right from your home into the open ocean.

If you want a few acres, you can find farms for under $125,000 (but beware of the gators!).

For more about Charlotte County see http://www.sw-fl-homes.com/charlotte_county.htm

We live here, took the boat out the islands today . . .

Great Florida weather, but no tourists or theme parks here.

Well, I'm sure what you say is true, and I will withdraw the word "proudly", but these were my experiences, and I have lived all over the country. I did meet many good people, some I still keep in touch with, but I wouldn't ever want to go back.
