You are so right! Does anyone remember hearing margarine referred to as "oleo" or "ole" (oh-lee) for short?

I remember smuggling oleo from Illinois. Otherwise you had to buy these one pound bags of white stuff with a capsule of yellow dye in it & squish it around until the oleo inside was colored yellow. It took a long time before buying oleo in stick form was legal in Wisconsin.

Ah yes, oleo. To this day I really get ticked off when we go to a nice restaurant and they bring us the rolls with margarine. I may use margarine for cooking, my kids may prefer it. However, I AM from Wisconsin and I use BUTTER! Believe me, the restaurant management ALWAYS hears about it. :-) Take care, God Bless, and Merry Christmas!
