I don't know what kind of punishment would ever be horrible enough for a creep like this.

I don't either. But I don't think we should be in the business of torturing people to death. If he is to die, kill him. Quickly. Not out of concern for the murderer/rapist, but so that we don't degrade ourselves.

Renterea should be castrated and then hanged. His body should then be displayed in the public square for the people to desecrate it.

This should be the standard routine for all sex offenders.

When one looks at the whole picture of society, then what place do these sex offenders really have? What good are they to themselves and to society in general? What positive thing to they contribute to society?

I say get rid of the bast*rds and let our kids have one less thing to fear in their lives.

Scumbags like this should be used in experiments. Really, really painful ones.

Suspect avoided prison in 1994 child indecency case

Victor Calzada / El Paso Times

A police detective, right, talked to a man believed to be the father of accused child killer David Renteria Tuesday at the suspect's home in the 8500 block of Winchester.

By Jennifer Shubinski El Paso Times

The suspect charged with abducting and killing 5-year-old Alexandra Flores entered into a plea bargain in 1994 that let him avoid prison in a case involving indecency with a child, court records show.

David Renteria, 32, was sentenced to 10 years deferred adjudication, a form of probation, after pleading guilty to one count of indecency with a child in January 1994, according to the records from 243rd District Court.

The police are saying this was the most brutal murder they've ever seen.

Whether he gets the DP, depends on Texas citeria for its use. Each State is different. I too hope he gets the DP.

Renteria was convicted in 1994 of indecency with a child involving sexual contact, This probably was plea bargained down to this level. Most cases involving child sex offenders are.

Impalement on a greased pole (death is slower that way).

The mandatory minimum sentence for child molestation should be death.

Killing is too good for them. I propose pain. Pain that they can't escape. Some electrodes in the pain centers of the brain would make it impossible to ingore. If that's too much trouble, you can always fire up a wood chipper. He's got at least four or five good appendages that can be run through the thing without killing him.

I wish that were legal. Because that would be far more appropriate than lethal injection.

long, slow, painful, horrible, exquisitely painful death for this piece of filth?

Are you volunteering to administer this long, slow etc... death? Really? You think you'd enjoy it? Really? I hope you're just impossibly naive, because stating the alternative might be construed as a "personal attack". I don't do torture. I won't have torture done by the State (in my name). Not doing torture is part of what separates us from the bad guys. This "piece of filth" however horrible his crimes, is still a human person. To torture him to death is to reduce ourselves to his level.

The prosecutor and the judge who allowed this scum to walk after six months "boot camp" for molesting a little girl are surely complicit in the murder of this five-year-old child. Like serial killers, child molesters are never cured and never quit. The prosecutor knew that. The judge knew that.

and sleep easily knowing one more piece of filth would NEVER hurt a child like that again.

That would be accomplished by hanging, or gas chamber, or firing squad, with which I have no problem, and would be willing to participate. If you're being honest, and would actually be willing to torture anyone to death, for any reason... I'm glad I don't live anywhere near you. That's just plain evil.

There are four valid reasons for the state to impose punishment on a criminal:
  1. Retribution -- to satisfy a primal need for revenge.
  2. Removal of the criminal from society -- so they can do no more harm.
  3. Rehabilitation -- to reform the criminal and make them productive members of society.
  4. Deterrance -- to discourage others from being criminals.

Corporal punishment (i.e., painful punishment) goes a long way towards satisfying retribution and deterrance and you might even get some rehabilitation if the criminal fears a repeat of the punishment. Right now, too many Americans think of death as an "escape" which is why people kill themselves. Don't let them "escape" punishment. Make sure they know they are being punished.

Note that I'm talking about felonies and capital crimes, not jaywalking or littering here.

"Felonies"??? You might be surprised what constitutes a felony these days. Here's a hint: Go to your local gun shop. Buy a Chinese made SKS carbine. Go to your local army/navy surplus store, or go to a gun show. Buy a bayonet designed to fit an SKS carbine. Attach said bayonet to said carbine. Congratulations! You've just committed a Federal felony, worth 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Incidentally, if your SKS carbine was made in Russia, the bayonet will be already attached; that's not a crime at all.

In general, I agree with you that the penalty for real crimes, in which real people are really harmed, should be seriously unpleasant for the criminal. A return to the pillory and the stocks, and public flogging might not be a bad idea in some cases. Executions for capital crimes should be public. Child rape should be a capital crime. But torture? Torture is what evil, warped, vile criminals do. Torture is what child-rapists do. I'm not concerned with whether perfect justice is done to the rapist if we "only" hang him. Perfect justice will not be found on this side of the grave. I object not because it's bad for the criminal, but because it's bad for us.
