We're assuming that both the democrats and republicans don't ultimately have the same agenda; more power in the hands of the government. They're just taking different routes (in a kind of flanking maneuver) to achieve the same objective. One group will take away your freedoms using the environment as an excuse, the other will take them away using the threat of terrorism. The net effect is the same either way.
