What about key words ? can they be part of the search?

Any way to have repetitive searches restricted to prior search results?

And does this change what you may do with the Bump List Topics?

It's good to hear a satisfied FULLTEXT SEARCH user, as my own first use of that feature will be coming online later this week.

Reading about it, it's really pretty darned amazing - as long as it's not too slow.

Awesome. Since it seems you are taking requests (you did say that, right? lol), I will add my three or four:

1)Include a filter on author, so you can do a search for posts by a particular author. Allow wildcards for this.

2) Include a filter on poster, so you can do a seach for posts made by a particular poster. Also allow wildcards for this.

3) Add an option for "sort by reverse posting date" and for "sort by author" and "sort by poster".

Great job.

We'll just have to make sure that Sheila Jackson Lee never rises to prominence then, since searching on her last name wouldn't work.

It's all about us. ;-)

OH YEAH! A MUCH better engine from what we've been using!

I wonder if it will bog down when you add replies?

It seemed fast and give me excellent results with the only problem being the same as whenever I'm using my copy of IE; That being when I am faced with several fields to fill in, or perhaps a field, a couple of menu boxes and a submit button, MY machine gets constipated.

After I fill in the first field, or make a choice in the first menu box, my machine sits thinking about it for sometimes a minute! It won't let me move to the next item until it's thought about things for awhile. REALLY FRUSTRATING!

The machine has plenty of RAM (320megs), should be fast enough at 500MHZ, and there's plenty of HD space and W98 original.

It's the same no matter what site I'm on. When I was using the Excite@home version of IE, the problem vanished. But after ATT reconfigured - deleted the Excite IE version - I'm back to waiting.

I've tried several re-installations of IE but nothing has helped.

No problem with Netscape 4.x though, but I prefer IE because I use it at work as well and I'm used to it. PLUS for some reason the problem wasn't >as noticble< with the current FR search.

Anyway I hope you can integrate this search engine, it seems to be FAR superior to the present one.

Thanks John!

I put in a search for'Confederate'& came up with all kinds of nifty stuff.

Post time should be the default. Relevance should be the alternate choice.

By the way, what's the purpose of "Key Words" when posting an article. I notice they disappear once the article has been posted.

Thanks for continuing to improve the search function. Replies to this thread are approaching 100 already and I don't have time at the moment to read them all, so this may be a repeat of someone else's request, but here is my wish. I wish there was a way to search on author and/or source. You had it once upon a time, and maybe you still do and I am not smart enough to figure it out. Anyway, searching on title is often not enough to prevent duplicate posts because the same article can be published in several sources with a different title in each one! (Author's do not create the titles). Thanks, in advance.

Wow!
Thank you, John. I have found hundreds of songs I thought I had lost forever after a computer crash.
Perhaps the REST of us can learn from your example. (At least until, if ever, John is able to let us search beyond the title.)

Since it currently only looks in the title, you are fortunate that YOUR threads have been effectively titled, i.e.:

song parody

- and using "match all words" -

song parody gore
song parody hill - note that a PARTIAL name now DOES work, at least for "Hillary"
song parody you - and three letter words - at least "you" - now seem to work, too!

Haven't tried the search engine yet (will shortly), but just noticed the new FREEPmail interface. Very spiffy!
